So how many of you CC's agree with Jefferson that only when we have a Wall of Separation between Church and State will we have a free society? The thing is, Jefferson is spot on and I doubt if there is a CC out there who can understand that...

Conservatives understand it far better than you do. You are blinded by your anti-religious bias.

It depends on how you interpret Jefferson's "wall of separation between Church and State "according to the meaning of the 1st Amendment. The government doesn't have the right to declare one favored religion over another and the ability to restrict someone from freely exercising their religious beliefs over the objections of others.

Leave it to PeterS to throw something like this at us.

PeterS, FYI, Thomas Jefferson had no hand in drafting the Constitution, being occupied in Paris serving as our ambassador to France so he could have had no authority to imterpret the document. He was also very upset when he returned to America and read it.

There are many other quotes, including from John Adams who was there and subsequently said that it doesn't work in a society with no religious spiriit.

And for that reason, you should read the amendment. It only forbids CONGRESS from, establishing a religion and nothing else. Any person or organization is free to try to influence legislation.

Answer this if you dare, which, as everyone on OPP is aware, you won't.

You are very correct in what Congress can do and the freedom for any one or organization to shape proposed laws.

He does not have the cognitive ability to comprehend the meaning of Church and state.

What do you understand? Do you understand "it" better than Jefferson? He viewed that only by keeping the two separate will a free society exist. Do you agree? And understand, anything I may think or feel is irrelevant to the question. Address the question, don't use it as a forum to attack me!
