Discourse in the OPP arena

It is my opinion that much of the discourse on OPP is honest enough, though highly combative in nature. I believe that posters usually simply disagree as a result of having different perspectives acquired from their life experiences. The problems in discourse may very well lie in the likelihood that political exchanges can be and often are similar in passion to religious discussions.

Imagine, if you will, a rabbi, priest or pastor trying to convince the others of their religious convictions or beliefs with the hopeful result of a spiritual or theological conversion. As respected as each of the three aforementioned may be, the odds are strongly against that coming to fruition as the result of their efforts. Partisan/ideological zealots generally approach those with opposing political views with the fervor of religious evangelists.

As a result, on OPP, it often appears not enough for a true believer to believe as they do. All others must also believe, or the offended may become self-righteous, indignant or even angry, bitter and vindictive. Thus, OPP's political discourse often ends in being similar to the story of the boy who angrily takes his football home with him due to others not playing by his rules.

I close with a quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin: "If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins."

What you say, in this post, is accurate.
Man made c*****e c****e, Tax and Spend economics, L+ extreme public mandates, and so many others are just as cultish and 'religiously faith based' as the very worst of the Trump-or-nothing followers on the far right or the never-ever-Trump h**ers on the left.
All of the above are based on completely non-objective extreme faith-based fanatic extremism.

The difference is that different religious beliefs don't pose a threat to our well being. Supporting the democrats l*****t policies and their leader's incompetence is costing us our country.

Perhaps if I had included an Imam with the three aforementioned clergy, you would think differently

There were no spoken words in Nwtk's written reply to me.

What too many fail to realize slatten is that we are not wrestling against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

The book of Job is a prime example... The fundamental reason for Job’s suffering was to silence the blasphemous accusations of Satan and prove that a man would honor God even though he had lost everything. It was a battle “in the heavenlies”… but Job didn’t know it. Job’s life was a battlefield where the forces of God and Satan were engaged in a spiritual struggle to decide the question, “Is God worthy of man’s worship?”

Similar to Job's life, what's going on in the world right now is a battle on a much larger scale in the heavenlies at the end of the age that's playing out on planet earth to see, among other things, which side you're on. I will not argue who is on what side but if you have the discernment of the Holy Spirit it's quite obvious. This is not a battle of left/right, Democrat/Republican, blue/red, black/white, etc. but a battle for souls that is a test to see how you'll choose. And this is not a game unlike what many on this site seem to think.

I personally enjoy combative discourse.

I especially like it when my adversaries resort to personal insults, because I have skin as thick as an alligator's hide.

While most Liberals here will immediately run to admin as soon as you hurt their little feelings and pierce their thin little skins with the slightest utterance of a disparaging comment.

But I equally enjoy it when they choose to match wits and battle with intellect.

My whole purpose for joining OPP was to be able to stand toe to toe and duke it out through verbal combat with those who subscribe to the Liberal woke agenda.

I have however, though rarely, exchanged ideas with one or two liberals here who impressed me with their ability to maintain their composure and not allow themselves to stoop to the level of asininity.

But for the most part, the majority of liberals here are thoroughly indoctrinated into the q***r and t***s agenda that the democrat party insists upon shoving down their throats.

Of these hopeless woketards, I happily blast upon them with both barrels fully loaded without compunction.

I've responded to many of Slattens threads and comments since as far back as 2014.

And he has never once stooped to the level of some of our more d*****t liberal jackanapes.

Good job "Ol' Boot".
