I agree with the title topic, but STRONGLY disagree with Mr. Barrett.
The idea that the USA has not really needed a national defense, nor needs it now, is ludicrous.
I DO agree that the government, as the entity it has evolved into, is the primary enemy of the American people. It needs to be sharply reduced in power, and most of what power is left should be in the hands of the state....NOT Washington DC.
National defense, a postal service, and a few other things designed primarily for direct protection of the people. Nothing else, and NONE of them should have the power of mandate over state governments, except the military.

I think perhaps, you misconstrue what Mr. Barnet is trying to say.
I don't see him as saying we need a military for national defense. What we do have is a military designed, built, and functioning as a force engaged in global hegemony.
"We live in a country that has warred aggressively against fictitious enemies, meaning without cause or necessity, more than any other country on earth. It is stated, and supported, that the United States has been at war for at least 93% of its entire existence. I firmly believe this number to be much higher, and with proper consideration, it is likely closer to 100%. If one is to determine the actual damage done, the actual harm due to direct war, proxy war, what is insanely considered ‘collateral damage,’ what is the horrid long term cost to human life in the aftermath of this terror, the total number of causalities, including the dead, would be tens if not hundreds of millions of innocent people. But what is sold to the wrongly named ‘public, is that this country is and has been the savior of ‘democracy,’ a completely evil and failed ideology, which is a gross lie beyond the imagination of any sane and thinking human being."

Not the military either.
The military should not be involved in anything on home soil.
Except as a last resort for disasters and emergencies.
A socialistic military force should be kept out
of public service .

Perhaps I misjudged what he was saying.

Please do not even PARTIALLY agree with me, and do not EVER post anything in support of one of my opinions.
I find it shameful and embarrassing.
Considering what’s happening in our cities and what’s being allowed on our borders, I have to agree that our biggest and most dangerous enemy is our own government!!
You couldn’t be more wrong

Then open the border.
