Former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales (R) took aim at Republicans who accuse the Justice Department (DOJ) of being biased, warning them to not use former President Trump’s indictments as “political fodder.”

“While Trump has a right to defend himself, his language and actions since 2016 have fueled a growing sense among many Americans that our justice system is r****d and biased against him and his supporters,” Gonzales wrote in a Washington Post op-ed.

“Sadly, this has led on the right to a growing distrust of and rage against the Justice Department,” he added.

“Pundits across the political spectrum have a duty to be honest with Americans and to demonstrate that Trump is not being singled out and treated unfairly unless there is clear evidence to believe otherwise,” Gonzales wrote. “The American people should withhold their judgment, consider the facts as the case moves forward, and be wary of words designed to fan the flames of partisanship.”

Gonzales, who served in former President George W. Bush’s administration, pushed back against arguments that the DOJ is targeting free speech in its latest charges brought against Trump: “Speech that leads to crime has never been protected from prosecution,” he wrote.

“Lying to masses of Americans that their right to v**e was taken away and encouraging them to take it back by any means — as Trump is accused of doing — can, based on evidence beyond a reasonable doubt, constitute a crime.”

Trump pleaded not guilty last week to four federal charges in connection with his alleged efforts to overturn the 2020 e******n. The former president and many of his allies have used the indictment to accuse the Biden administration of “weaponizing” the DOJ, with many labeling it as a “two-tier system of justice.“

Gonzales argued that the r****rs who stormed the Capitol on J*** 6, 2021, should not be held to a higher standard than Trump. He warned that if the country decides that presidents should not be charged with crimes related to actions they took while in office, the U.S. is “no longer a democracy.”

He also reiterated the “burden of proof” is on the government, adding that it is the duty of officials to “act at all times with integrity.” He also called on political pundits to be “honest” with Americans in the wake of Trump’s latest indictment.

“The rule of law is the glue that holds our country together. If we are to survive as a democracy, we must continue to respect and protect it,” he concluded.

>>>We aren't a democracy and never were or ever should be. Democracy is government by majority ruling over a minority. This ALWAYS leads to the Majority taking advantage of the Minority. It escalates to the Majority subjecting the Minority, while stealing from the Minority, for the benefits of those that would keep them in power. Dictatorship over s***es.

And the biden administration proved that with extreme laws and regulations imposed on America, without their consent, for the first two years of that possibly illegal fraudulently installed administration. The only thing that held them back was a Supreme Court of Justices following the Constitution and not the political will of the party in charge. It now is being held in Check with the addition of a Minority party taking back some controls in America, in the House of Representatives, and instituting investigations and fiscal restraints. We can only hope for more, and rescuing America from the clutches of the evils of l*****t, progressives and c*******ts that would fully ens***e us so that our Republic can be returned to what it should be.

The US is a Republic. That is a fact. That does not, and never has meant it is “not a democracy.” The two words are not antonyms, they just refer to different things, different aspects of our structure, both of which describe what America is and how it’s organized.

This ridiculous idea that The US’s status as a Republic somehow means it is NOT a democracy is rooted in the f*****t uber far-right rhetoric of the old John Birch Society and needs to die a fast death.

Is America a democracy or a republic? Yes it is!

E******n denialism has become not only a thing but a movement. And if critics call this an attack on democracy, some e******n deniers respond by saying the U.S. is not a democracy, it is a republic.

The US is a Constitutional Republic organized by that Constitution as a Representative Democracy.

That means it’s a constitutional democracy that uses representative democracy to get most things done, and sometimes engages in direct democracy (That’s what a b****t measure is.)

Democracy in the governments of countries today (including ours) is representative, meaning that the people rule indirectly through their elected public officials.

https://www.annenbergclassroom.org/resource/understanding-democracy-hip-pocket-guide/democracy-representative-and-constitutional/

The problem with the rhetoric is that you most often hear it when people are pressing ideas that most Americans don’t support. It’s an answer for why they should still get their way even though more people want the opposite.

It’s a call for the tyranny of the minority.

When the founders talked about anything related to democracy in a negative way, they always clarified that they were talking about Athenian-style Direct Democracy. They weren’t saying everyone shouldn’t get a say, they were saying we can’t ask everyone about everything, we have to set up a structure.

The Structure they set up was representative democracy. Everyone gets a say on who represents them in Government and those representatives follow a Democratic process to decide on what becomes law.

They never felt that “what most people want shouldn't happen.” Quite the opposite. What they felt was you can’t build a stable foundation on the shifting tides of public opinion. You need something more stable than that. And that’s what they built. A nation of laws where everyone gets a say by electing the people who write those laws.

America. The Republic. The Democracy.

Amazing how the side that loves to blab about how the other side “h**es America” so much understands her so imperfectly. Part of loving the old girl is getting to know her.

I disagree with his opinion that tha DOJ has not been weaponized.

I do agree that if we don't go back to "equal justice" then we are doomed as a country. I suggest those on the left take an honest assessment of our legal system, because IMHO it is beyond corrupt, it is partisan
