Amid a number of new laws..

This is only to satisfy my curiosity...

As some of you may know, Minnesota at the moment is 100% blue state.. all government and every state wide pol is a Democrat..

So laws passed like never before.. Even a shot at gun responsibility..

Now this got a bit complicated.. joined with regulations from the 90s and covering a number of POV it included making gun t***sfers to require a background check even via private sales.. the penalty for crimes via guns also increased..

And the section of gun regulations include the description of assault style rifles which has been on the book from the 90s.. Just for fun and giggles.. I will include that small part of a quite long regulation which includes many regulations for guns.. Recall that Minnesota has tons of guns.. we have more guns per capita then Texas and Oklahoma.. that will give you an idea of our love of guns ...

So this is what I would like to see comments on.. many have asked the question on OPP,,, " what is an assault rifle".. This is one partial answer..

Civilian AR15s are not military grade.
They are military style.
Assault rifles have no other purpose .
And should not be available to civilians.

Notice all the rifles listed are semiautomatic, not an assault rifle. Assault rifles are fully automatic by definition. Those scary looking guns account for a small percentage of gun crime. But oh, they look so scary, right milqetoast0.

Hello Bill.... sorry I am late... took a lovely lady shopping and that changes from running errands to exploring possibilities, if not for now.. maybe latter.. and chews up the whole day..

Yes, all those listed guns are semiautos.. if you went to the law...darn did I link it... Maybe my bad.. but the law is very clear.. these are military assault STYLED rifles and the law addresses not just those listed but also similar and those changed ## By making slight changes.. and this , the descriptive part of the law is not new, has been on the books since the 1990s... anyway that part of the law is not confined to those listed, it is addressing the style and the fact they are modeled after military rifles...

BTW, to my knowledge the military, or at least the Marines do not label any gun as an "assault" weapon... in the world of marines,,, any gun or even a different weapon can be used to assault the enemy...

I don't know why the terminology is so difficult for some people to grasp.. the "style" is what makes these rifles so popular. for some the black military style is the real reason they want them so strongly..

Now as I sit down and ponder my post... the law, the new part, is about procedure to purchase and own one of these rifles or a hand gun.. MMMM, do not think I posted that explanation.. it is not at all about forbidding ownership..

Sorry if the post was not so good..

However, I am looking for input on it.. Lot of new laws in effect as of Aug 1, 2023.. Guns only a part of them..

Not a single weapon mentioned in the list is an 'assault' rifle by definition. In reality any firearm could be considered an 'assault' weapon. We then also have the 'assault' brick, knife, golf club, baseball bat, table lamp, tire iron, stick, fork, frying pan, hammer, screw driver and many many more everyday items. OH, and lest I forget my own personal favorite assault weapon, a cordless drill with spade bit.
