Obama Declares 'Turning Point' For US Military



“Going Forward Our Military Will Be Leaner…”



(Newsmax) – Marking what he called a “turning point” for the U.S. military, President Barack Obama on Monday saluted troops returning from Afghanistan and declared the United States is moving past the time for large deployments aimed at nation building.



Obama noted that nearly 180,000 troops were deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan when he took office, and that number will be down to less than 15,000 at the end of the month.



“The time of deploying large ground forces with big military footprints to engage in nation building overseas, that’s coming to an end,” the commander in chief said in a speech to 3,000 at New Jersey’s Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, a launching point for deployments to Afghanistan.



U.S. and NATO troops closed their operational command in Afghanistan last week after 13 years of war. Some troops will remain, however, to carry out operations against Taliban and al-Qaida targets.



“Going forward our military will be leaner,” Obama said. “But as your commander in chief, I’m going to make sure we keep you ready for the range of missions that we ask of you. We are going to keep you the best trained, the best led, the best equipped military in the history of the world because the world will still be calling.”



The base has also been used to send service members to West Africa to help confront the Ebola crisis.



Obama was greeted upon arrival by Republican Gov. Chris Christie. Obama and the potential 2016 p**********l candidate shared a laugh and a long handshake before heading to the event to express gratitude to the troops ahead of the holidays. “You guys are like Santa in fatigues,” Obama joked.

Let me be clear, I h**e, loth, distrust this lying "Son - of - a - B***h"... He 'IS' the real "Manchurian President"... He is everything our Country has been guarding against for 60 plus years... He wants to destroy his perception of "Imperial America"...

BUT, I agree with him about America being involved in "Nation Building"... Our 'screw up' this time is we went past our objectives in Afghanistan & Iraq... We went to war in Afghanistan to kick the Taliban & el Queada out of the Country, then hand the "keys" to whoever the leader was and leave, that would have been in less than 18 months, not 13 years... Iraq was to kick Hussen & his Sons out and destroy the WMD that we knew he had because we gave or sold them to him 10 years before... That mission took only about 2 years, then we should have handed the keys to who ever the strong man was and left...

I disagree with him in cutting our Military back to below pre WWII numbers... But we can rebuild after we elect a STRONG Conservative (America First) president... Don D.

Just remember we aided Afghanistan with weapons to fight the Russians and win a war that lasted years.

If we wouldn't have done that they would still be fighting against Putin right now instead of us.

If we wouldn't have stuck our noses in it a lot of American lives would have been saved and we would still have the same result but Putin would be distracted from his ambitions.
