Let us kick this around. Why not just annex Mexico. Yes, it would take some effort to raise their standard of living....but, if you look at Mexico, the land is pretty much like ours minus the snow and ice. How about the imports from Mexico that we currently pay outrageously for... agriculture, mining, oil, semiprecious stones..... Mexico is wealthy, but poorly managed. How about we just annex it??? Most Mexicans would not object because they would gain benefits. Hispanics would not be a minority any longer and the money we already spend on deporting them can be used to upgrade schools and hospitals in our new acquired southern states.

What do you think?

Sure. I'm all for [it], as I'm sure all but the drug cartels' and, I h**e to seem redundant, but, their government, and just disqualify the "Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo," because Mexico hasn't honored that Treaty since [it] was signed; when "WE" conquered Mexico [1846-48], and then gave Mexico back to Mexico; and just kept our southern border states and California. Sure, take [it] back. I love Acapulco!!!

Don.... they are already here and Obama is allowing more in.... seems to me that we should get something out of this if we are going to support their families for their entire lives and that of their children and their children..... There are riches in Mexico and it could be made into states making contributions rather than a drain. And with the annex, people if making a living and have comforts, will stay put. Family, friends, and employment will anchor them to their current residence. The reason that most say they come to the US is work and family..... Eliminate the need to migrate, then eliminate the overpopulation of the original USA. I can think of a billion ..... no make that close to 50 billion reasons (that is the aid given each year to Mexico) why we should just annex.

As I said we are already dealing with the drugs and many of their medical issues.... should we not look at this as a half full glass rather than a half empty? Fields of produce, mines of ore, gold and silver...not to mention oil. Vacation paradises......

The southern border of Mexico would be easier to secure and take less fencing to seal it. Th e drug cartels in Mexico would be put on notice and they would be rounded up and shipped back to South America. Any one coming across the Southern border could be searched and turned back if they don't meet our criteria. Actually we should use Mexico's criteria towards use to regulate those coming in from the south after that.

Excellent! Thank you. I thought about the expansion of the Coast Guard....but you are right a shorter boarder is easier to defend and the canal will make it easier also. Good points, thanks!!

If we annexed Mexico, their southern border would soon be just as porous as our southern border is now.

My thinking on this is that it would be at least a couple of years for something of this magnitude to come together and muster the necessary acceptance of our citizenry here in the US. By that time a republican would have assumed office and hopefully that republican would be of a conservative bend and not democrat lite. Controlling all three branches at that we should be able to pass the necessary bills and laws to make the borders happen and to station our border patrol agents down there. We would have less physical are to monitor and patrol and we would be in a far more remote area and away from prying eyes of the lame stream media. Bodies could be disposed off quite nicely down there and and that would definitely send a warning message to all in South America that we are not going to be messed with.

1950 miles of boarder between US and Mexico or 50 miles of canal.... seems to me that you could line the 50 miles with a unit every quarter mile and have effective entry control.....whereas the US Mexican boarder will never be secure. Use the current Mexican army to use deadly force on those entering illegally...

Quite enthusiastic! Just teasing. I do not think that China, until it declares war on the West will be too much of a problem. So, you propose unifying the northern hemisphere? Now that is ambitious. And I was just musing over the issues of annexing Mexico and making it a productive part of the newly formed Middle America.
