It's fairly clear that for trump, being president meant that he could do virtually anything and get away with it... but the reality is that there are things that even a president can't do without being held accountable.

The defamation suit is about things he said while president, not as president, the distinction being that in no way is he representing the country or the job as president when he goes out of his way to trash someone and call them a liar. So then the idea that the DOJ would defend him simply because he was president when he said those things is as moronic as it gets.
