US Coast Guard announced the sub imploded, most likely right after - or during - when they lost contact, but the investigation as to how/why/when is still under investigation.

All 5 souls lost.

That's what makes the most sense, that it happened early on, which would be a blessing to die quickly rather than freezing in the dark until either hypothermia or running out of oxygen ended in death

RIP

I got to know them by reading the news. They were human beings with families and loved ones who are struggling with the news of their deaths right now.

The sounds might have been the debris from the imploded sub falling to the sea floor.

They located five separate pieces of the sub within two debris fields.

Yes...RIP...I hope it brings some sort of comfort to their families and loved ones knowing they weren't huddled together freezing and having a hard time breathing and they most likely died instantaneously. At least there can be some sort of closure for them all now.

It doesn't matter.

What I am glad of is that they didn't suffer - one guy said it might have taken 1/8th of a second for it to happen. That would not be enough time for them to even know what was happening. Thank God for that...

I wouldn't trust a carbon anything two miles down! If it ain't steel, it ain't real!

How about two miles up? Reinforced Carbon was used on the wing leading edges and nose cap of space shuttles.
These RCC panels withstood Mach 25 velocities and temps of 3000 F.

The USS Thresher and USS Scorpion were steel hulled submarines.

Apples and Oranges. I'm assuming this was a filament-wound Carbon vessel, not subject to g-forces, wind shear, heat, or a vacuum, like the shuttle was exposed to. This vessel was under extremely high pressure at those depths. As I said......

Didn’t you post recently that psychopaths have no empathy? Where is yours?

It could have imploded after they heard tapping. Right now they don’t know.

How do you "tap" on carbon fiber? I don't think it even "thuds".

Carbon can be multiples stronger and lighter than steel, but it has technical flaws that have to be checked for because they can create a weak spot, plus it can be subject to fatigue with repeated stress like pressure at dives and no pressure.

I'd have had a problem with the size of the viewing bubble...

and quite frankly I'm pretty sure I'd have been claustrophobic as we went deeper...it wouldn't be for me...every little creak would be freaking me out. They had a tranquilizer gun in case anybody freaked out.
