They’re likely dead by now. I’m not going to call them stupid - they knew the risks and several were explorers. Unless you are also its hard to understand.
I hope for the sake of the families they find the sub and figure out what went wrong.

So, you have never done anything risky?

Have you seen what they were dealing with???
Taking an untested vehicle down by remote control (that can be purchased for less than I make in an hour) is the height of stupidity...

Climbed mountains (without gear), crossed a border illegally (drunken dare..Russians didn't shoot), turned a car into a boat with friends (sank like a rock), lots of other stuff...
Rode a shopping cart down the highway once... That didn't end well...
Do you applaud stupidity???

I wonder how much the 4 other people besides the CEO (Stockton Rush) really knew about all the problems the sub had? I.e., did they know 2 people were fired for voicing their concerns about safety and the sub not being certified to dive that deep?
Even though it had made a couple of prior trips successfully, it still wouldn’t have passed the certification process according one guy who was fired….and who sued the company for wrongful dismissal for writing a report and documenting how unsafe he thought the sub was.
I bet if they knew these things they never would have gone on that thing!
Mr. Rush is fully responsible for those deaths.
I can’t imagine what went on in their minds as they sat there in the cold darkness day after day…and what their families were thinking, too!
Horrible way to die. I actually hope it imploded shortly after they started. At least that would have been instantaneous.

No, but I am careful not to judge others for doing what I have done.

The owner was one of those woke people

Maybe he didn’t want to pay the ones with experience what they were worth?
In fact, it seemed he wanted to cut corners on several safety aspects.
He said “rules were made to be broken, and he broke a few of them….that’s what explorers and inventors do”

I don't recall the Wright Brothers buying cheap parts and charging people to fly on their plane...
Didn't they test it themselves???
Trying to remember if any experts signed off on Challenger🤔🤔🤔

Those controllers are also used by the military for some things because they work
Every person had access to information about the sub and the company. They knew the risks. While its not a decision most of us would have made, there are many out there who would have gone. Edmund Hilary and Tenzing Norgay (sp) climbed Everest - a place where there was also no hope of a rescue.
I’m not really defending their decision. Just sayin’. IMO it was a disaster just waiting to happen
