This is an attempt to edify certain members of OPP, in the hope they will either develop some research sk**ls, or be a little less eager to expose their ignorance.
S***ery in the US lasted from basically 1619 until 1865. Bear in mind that for most of that time we were British colonies.
The majority of s***es brought to what became the US arrived here on British ships before we were a country.
At one point, s***ery was legal in every one of the 13 colonies that became the US
Of some 11 million s***es t***sported from Africa to the Americas, about one half million, or six percent ended up in what became the US. The rest went to Brazil and the Carribean. Also Mexico, anti-s***ery laws there ignored.
There was ONE Southern owned s***e ship that made ONE voyage to Africa, bringing back some 200 s***es. Well, gee, where did the rest of them come from? From Northern shipping interests. New York was a huge s***e trading center. Little Rhode Island was home to the DeWolfe and Brown families, whose s***e ships were responsible for about half the 1100 or so documented s***e ship voyages after we became a country.
S***ery had been a thriving business in Africa for a thousand years before the first white European ever set foot in sub-Saharan Africa. When the European traders showed up, a number of black tribes notorious for enslaving other Africans started selling them to those European traders. Very few b****s were actually ens***ed by w****s, unless you count Arabs. You remember that figure of 11 million s***es brought to the "New World?" An estimated 28 million were kidnapped and ens***ed by Arabs and Muslims.
S***ery existed in British colonies until 1838. In Brazil until 1881. In Africa until 2007. Today, Amnesty International estimates there are at least 20 million people ens***ed worldwide despite laws in every country prohibiting it.
In 1860 there were an estimated 20 million plus s***es in the world. Around 4 million in the US, if you count the half million in the four s***e states that did not secede. Also if you count the 3000 plus black s***e owners listed in the 1830 US census with their thousands of s***es. About half of these were free b****s who "owned" a couple of family members to protect them. The other half bought and sold their fellow b****s just like their counterparts in African had been doing for more than 1000 years.
This brings me to my point; If Liberals spent half as much time doing research as they do spreading falsehoods, the rest of us would not be as familiar with their butts that they keep showing. De nada. I get tired of op/eds from ignorant trolls being used as "proof" that s***ery began and ended with the seceding Confederate States. When I post a source I try and use one that has a ".gov" or ".edu" or even ".org" at the end of the address.
"Fact checkers" right or left wing are generally cherry picked bulls**t for people who lack the education or willingness to actually do research.

It's not liberals that have a problem with history and the facts, and these foundational facts do not change any of the in depth historical accounts of how s***ery went through the years, and more importantly the fight to either end it or keep owning s***es.

It's Liberals who have the problem. You virtue signaling hypocrites seem to think that s***ery began and ended in the American South, instead of at the dawn of recorded history. You ignore the fact that every major culture in the World's history has had s***ery at some point. Every one. You have no sense of historical perspective, nor do you seem to want one; you just want to b***h about something you know next to nothing about.
Right now, at this moment, Amnesty International estimates there are more than 20 million souls being held in bondage worldwide. Do you brainless bloviators care about them? Nope. Your whole self-righteous agenda is so fixated on what happened in this country and ended more than 150 years ago that you have no room to address the real life present time problem. Hell, that might require you to do something other than b***h and throw someone else's money at the problem.
