Are there any photographs of people who fought in the American Revolutionary War?
Yes, I know of one.

This is Mr. William Hutchings, shown here at the age of 100. He was one of the oldest surviving Revolutionary War veterans. This photo was taken in 1864.

When we imagine the American Revolutionary War, we think of drawings or perhaps paintings, not photographs. Yet here is the image of a Revolutionary War hero staring right at us.

William Hutchings was born in York, Maine, when it was still York, Massachusetts, in 1764. He enlisted in the military at the age of 15 and helped to protect his state’s coast. It was at the siege of Castine that he was taken prisoner by the British.

Since he was so young, the British didn’t hold him long, and he was freed to return home. After the war, he married, and his wife gave birth to 15 children. He lived out the rest of his life near the sea on the coast of his beloved Maine.
