This is part of a facebook exchange by grandsons father posted a few days ago. He, and part of me, have a strange love/h**e relationship with guns. He is retired army officer and last fall shot his first whitetail deer ever, in a hunt with his son, my grandson..

A fine cartoon was posted with it but would not pick up.. About rocks and cain/able... then david and goliath..

the other party is a childhood family friend..

This is interesting to me. he is not a gun "Nut" but we do share some opinions on guns.

It's so great to hear from you after all these years! I fondly remember h*****g out with your brother Steve Brunberg at your house back in high school. Thank you for contacting me, and especially on such an important matter!

You are correct! "The rock wasn’t a man-made device to k**l soldiers during a war." However, most modern firearms are multipurpose devices used for other legitimate purposes as well, such as hunting, self defense, and the defense of others. Additionally, they're used for target practice, shooting competitions, and plinking for fun.
Can you please provide me with your definition of an "assault weapon" so that we may continue this conversation on the same page? Perhaps then we can come to an understanding, if not an agreement.
All gun crimes are deplorable in my book! I "fought the good fight" as a protective services provider for many (34) years while carrying firearms. So I have had up close and personal experiences with firearm related crimes. And thank God that mass shootings, while horrific, only account for 0.5% of all gun crimes. A majority of which were committed with handguns, and not a weapon that "can basically fire dozens of flesh piercing “rocks” in seconds."
So, once we can agree on the definition of an "assault weapon" we can move forward. Hopefully, things will make more sense to you then. Sound good?
Do you know the full story of Cain murdering his brother Abel? If so, then you would know that Cain was incensed with Able because God liked Able's offerings better than his. So he slew his brother, not his whole family, and God sent him to wander the earth, so I don't understand your assertion that he would have k**led his entire family.
I agree, in general, with your characterization of the story of David and Goliath as having much to do with David’s faith in the Lord to keep him safe. However, where I would take issue is that this protection took the form of him wearing no armor, even though some was offered to him. The fact that he was going to use a weapon (his staff sling) to defeat Goliath was never in question. The meme wasn't of my creation, I only reposted it.
I will say, that in the modern usage, the concept of "David vs. Goliath" has taken on a secular meaning. It symbolizes an underdog situation. In this case, a contest where a smaller, weaker, unarmored but armed opponent faces a much bigger, stronger, armored, and armed adversary.
It reminds me of a quote from 1847 which I will paraphrase, "God created men. Colonel Colt made them equal." This of course refers to "modern" Colt firearms allowing the Texas Rangers to face multiple adversaries simultaneously, and for ordinary folks to be able to do the same. Additionally, all men, women, the small of stature, the elderly, the handicapped... now stood a fighting chance against a superior aggressor(s). Since I no longer regularly wear flexible body armor when going about my business, and falling into both the elderly and handicapped categories, I appreciate the peace of mind that I stand a good chance of leveling the playing field by carrying a firearm. No "twisting," no “virtue signaling.” Just the facts, m'am.
Please explain "That’s some pretty weird date of to be saving yourself," my old friend. I don't understand.
Thank you. 😊

Finally, this would have little to no effect on gang violence “where rapid fire 'shoot-outs' are k*****g innocent passers by or shooting into homes to k**l members, as the vast majority of these shootings are committed with handguns, not military assau… See more

Is there a “point” (logical conclusion) in this post?

Not at all. You could call it a train of thought post.. but it is a good post about how one can be a gun supporter without being a complete nut case about the role guns have in our society..

Or perhaps it is nothing but a conversation about guns and the role they have in the here and now..
