Outstanding editorial! I do not see a way out, save perhaps a convention of states, as authorized under the constitution. We need to start over, using the same constitution as written by our founders,and in the future vetting p**********l candidates.

A nominee for most ANY position is vetted by Congress. Why not a president?

I fully agree. We should resort back to the original Constitution and start from there. The backlash would be tremendous from corporations because small businesses would be back in full cycle as it was meant to be. Taxes would take quite a hit as well. I'm sure most people on this site remember when lemon-aid stands started getting taxed.

I am solidly against that Convention of States so many people on both sides talk about. How do you know how many progressives of either party would be appointed to that convention? Do you know much about the first Constitutional Convention and what they were appointed to do? So many people just can't realize that they were sent to Philadelphia to consider changes in the Articles of Confederation, our first constitution? What was their first decision? Why to write a whole new constitution to replace the Articles with, of course. What would keep this from happening if your convention had enough progressives to make up a majority? I don't want to see what might come from that bunch.
