The NICS does do background checks...
"The NICS conducts background checks on people who want to own a firearm or explosive, as required by law.
NICS Process

When a gun is legally sold, that's what is required.
The outlaws don't care about laws...both outlaw sellers as well as buyers.
There are already many gun laws...it's enforcing them with criminals that is the prolem.
This person legally bought guns without letting the seller know they had mental problems. How can a seller know what the buyer is going to do with the gun?

Anyone seeing a therapist for mental issues, the therapist should alert the government to restrict gun purchases first of all. That helps a little but we all know that if they really want one that's a small hiccup to slow them down they will find a way to get one. Everyone fails to look at the real problem which is the breakdown of mental health because of the devisive communications blared all over social media portraying the " other side" as evil and less than human. No tolerance to hear the other side from the left is a big issue. The screaming and shutting down because of feelings devoid of any logic is a poison to society.
