Children's pageant shows are strange, and usually more for the parents - who seem to compete with each other for which of their children is "prettiest". Girls do play dress up when they're younger (I did!) so imo, that's mostly what it's about for them. There's nothing "sexual" about the pageants, they're more for the outfits/makeup, etc., for the most part. P*******es may go to them to watch the kids, but the programs don't promote it.

Parental competition can be very amusing in all of it's forms. Children's beauty pageants are simply another form of that. Not my cup of tea, but I am not ready to condemn them. Forget about the kids and their overly grown up outfits. The real show is the show moms.

30 years ago I was involved in youth soccer, and I experienced excitable parents, and crazy coaches. Even I, the most calm person you ever met, got caught up in it a few times. Fortunately my kids were not stars, so I did not get sucked up into that upper orbit of crazy. Still there were times I felt myself morphing into one of those ugly soccer fathers. I learned to walk away from a game and go get a coffee.

I’ve been there. I coached baseball for 19 years. Never had an issue with a player that couldn’t be resolved quickly and with common sense. I can’t say that about the parents. The parents were the reason I left coaching.

I never played organized sports growing up. The one time I went out for organized football I got cut for being 2 lbs overweight. I played street sports. We always in the city, had stick ball games, touch foot ball games, and street hockey going constantly. You are forced to negotiate teams, rules, and deal with personalities. No parental supervision. If you are a jerk, nobody will play with you.

When my kids got into youth soccer, I got to see some great coaches. I never wanted to be one, but as time went on I got sucked into it. I learned enough from watching to be able f**e my way through intra mural coaching. I even reffed a little. I found there were other dads who knew far more than I did, who for one reason or another wouldn't take a team but would assistant coach with me.

When my kids went into high school I got to retire from coaching. With my job, coaching was just too exhausting. When my kids played there all I had to do was help at the snack bar and run the score board. At that level I saw not only the parent drama, but the coaches drama.
