Merry Christmas everyone. Have you noticed how even the "Christmas" tree this year is now being called the "holiday" tree. Our "Christmas" celebration is slowly and methodically being replaced and the media and business would have it become just another secular holiday. One blogger wrote that now everyone of all faiths can share in the December holiday. WHAT! That's why we have Thanksgiving in America. With Thanksgiving all cultures in America can give thanks for this great land and for their families and for the freedom to worship as they please. BUT... "Christmas" is a religious holiday for followers of "Christ." Christmas has now only become a shopping frenzy, so in our mad dash to "buy baby buy" we have allowed business and the media to remove "Christ" from Christmas.

A Muslim leader recently posted that wishing one a Merry Christmas, is worse in Allah's sight then murder is. So,yes Christmas is a religious holiday,even though it is celebrated on an old Pagan calendar date. Wise men's sheep, would not be out grazing in the wintertime. But,I would not care what date it was given. As long as we Christian people, can celebrate our Lords birthday,it's all good.

Exactly. Jesus was born in a land with palm trees not pine trees. The Christmas tree idea came from Germany where there is snow. However, Christians have created a day to celebrate the birth of Christ. It used to be a beautiful day of Christmas cheer, charity, church and family. Now we have very little left of that earlier Christmas. Today the need to get the stores out of the Red and into the Black is the goal of advertisers. Black Friday is NOW the Biggest day not Christmas.

Christians did not create Christmas. It was appropriated from Mithraism, a Persian mystery religion that was serious competition for Christianity from about 100-400 AD. December the 25th is the birthday of Mithra, the god of this religion. Mithraism itself adopted December the 25th from the pre-Christian pagan Roman celebration of Saturnalia, also on December 25th. This festival lasted until about 400 AD. Saturnalia involved giving gifts and decorating trees. The earliest mention of Christmas is in 354 AD. It is entirely pagan in origin. Christ was not born anywhere near December, but more likely in the fall, or late summer. Since he was born, according to the Bible, during the reign of Herod, who died in 4 BC, he had to have been born before 4BC. If shepherds were tending their flocks, it was NOT winter.

Cletus-unfortunately by using the term Xmas instead of Christmas you are falling right in line with what the Muslims want. X is an unknown quantity. The atheists have been successful in removing Christ from as much of America as possible and Muslims like it. Good Luck America !!!

Xmas has been around since I was tiny, and long before that. The X represents a cross, and is sort of shorthand for Christ. It's the dropping of the name Christmas and substituting Holidays that's basically wrong. No one seems to mind saying Happy New Year, but that's because it's not a Christian holiday.

People need to be educated. Christmas is actually a Pagan holiday, for one, and Christianity is an amalgamation of all sorts of different paganistic observances and rituals. It doesn't just belong to Christianity, it belongs to History, and to all of us. We all have the right to wish each other a Merry Christmas even if we're Jewish or Muslims.

You know your history. In spirit, however, the word "Christ" makes Christmas a time to remember Christ's birth. Everyone knows that Jesus was not born in a land with snow and pine trees. It is a magical and Christ centered celebration accepted by Christians of all denominations. The generic Happy Holiday completely removes Christ from the season. America was founded on Christian values with Christian patriots. Neither Mithra nor Mohammed had any part in the Christmas season accepted in the USA. Atheism and worshiping many gods also has a long history, but it is a sad and lonely journey without hope or joy. Christmas as a celebration in AMERICA has been created by Christians. Notwithstanding ancient history, Christ WAS born, and Christians have celebrated his birthday. "Holiday" just removes "Christ" from the celebration. We are a Christian nation, founded by Christian leaders, and we accept All religions. "Christmas" is the perfect word to express the symbolism of the season. 'Holiday" is just empty of any meaning, and that is just how the atheists, agnostics, liberal media and the greedy in business want it to become for the American Christmas: Just "buy baby buy." Push that economy. Forget about Christ, but don't forget to KEEP SPENDING.!!

Greeneyes, I completely agree with you!! Matter of fact, we decided (as an entire family) that no gifts will be bought for anyone. We will spend that money on those who are struggling.
My Mother-in-law turns 77 tomorrow, and DEMANDED that we do nothing at all. We are taking her pizza.

I suppose it would be pointless to explain about Easter. You are right about one thing: This country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles. Of the 55 delegates to the original Constitutional Convention, 52 listed their religion as either some Protestant denomination, and a couple of Catholics. There were three that I have no info on.
The point I was making is that Christmas is simply a manmade festival which was appropriated from pagan religions to attract adherents. It has absolutely no Biblical basis. It is as manmade as "Kwanzaa."
