Maybe you should follow your personal creed. I don't have a religious bone in my body, but I would never even think of ridiculing those who believe.

Why do you do that?

Because of all the little (and big) victims who have no voice to protest. I am thankful to present their side anytime I am asked. Given the day however, we might postpone that to another time.

So what you are saying is that you are glad to ridicule those who believe for “all the little (and big) victims who have no voice to protest and am thankful to present their side” anytime you are asked? That’s real magnanimous of you.

Lastly, who specifically has asked you to do this?

I ridicule ridiculous notions!
I contest unfair ideas!
I protest h**eful behavior!
I will do my utmost to protect the vulnerable.

Thus,
I present the facts of broken and lifeless bodies visited with atrocities in the name of religious superstition (oxymoron alert!)

Lastly, the virtue of my humanity specifically asks, no, demands I do this.

I loathe getting into debates with you because they’re a waste of my time but I will say one thing and then shut up…

Being a person of faith is something that is VERY important to me and for you to say -- in your OPINION -- it is a ridiculous notion and that you will ridicule me because of it is NOT very magnanimous. But that’s OK. Jesus warned me of people like you by saying, “If the world h**es you, remember that it h**ed me first.”

My wife and I had a great Thanksgiving together at our little log cabin in the mountains.

It snowed all day, the turkey was moist and tasty, the fix-ins filled me up and I am sure my blood sugar was well over 200 after three pieces of that homemade pumpkin pie.

The fire in the fireplace was just a crackling as my wife and I set on the couch, held hands and talked to each other.

So much to be thankful for. I pray God will allow us the same next year.

How about you?

Since you are replying to nobody in particular, I will be glad to say our Family had a bountiful Thanksgiving with Family and friends. Of course, the situation with our grandson, Christopher, weighed heavily on our minds. But, aside from that sadness, we counted our blessings.

I had a fine Thanksgiving meal with good friends. As for what I'm thankful for, I'm always thankful for something no one else ever seems to mention. I'm alive and sentient. I was born, and as a human. What a rare thing in the Cosmos to be. Think about it.

You might enjoy this quote:

"We are going to die, and that makes us the lucky ones. Most people are never going to die because they are never going to be born. The potential people who could have been here in my place but who will in fact never see the light of day outnumber the sand grains of Arabia. Certainly those unborn ghosts include greater poets than Keats, scientists greater than Newton. We know this because the set of possible people allowed by our DNA so massively exceeds the set of actual people. In the teeth of these stupefying odds it is you and I, in our ordinariness, that are here.We privileged few, who won the lottery of birth against all odds, how dare we whine at our inevitable return to that prior state from which the vast majority have never stirred?"

I am sorry you feel personally attacked. I am imperfect in my ability to refrain from heated discourse when in the excitement of debate. Hence my quest for practice in attempting it here on OPP to help me be more aware when I am failing in civility in my excitement, lest I hurt my unsuspecting family and friends. I assume those who contend with me are willing adults.

If, as you say, you dislike debating with me, I will attempt to soften my responses to you to allow nonconfrontational conversation to remain open.. It will be needed practice.

I would like you to consider that on OPP in the past couple week, there have been responses to me which included the spectrum from drop dead to premeditated murder to the assertion that, once in Hell, I will be anally raped by Satan nightly for eternity.

Honestly, in comparison, making fun of your beliefs was beginning to look pretty wimpy of me.

Nebertheless, it would be rude to conduct conversation with someone in a manner in which you know they object. I shall try to remain thoughtful on this issue.
