There's an oceanic difference between being a citizen and being an American. You survey the United States House of Representatives and Senate and you won't find a Democrat who is an American, and you won't find half of the members in the other party who are Americans. Yet they're all citizens of America. What is the distinction? Americans intend to live free and govern themselves according to the Articles laid out in a Constitution. Those others do not. Some intend to destroy that document, the government itself, and establish a dictatorship; others merely to use that document to enrich and empower themselves, choosing which Articles to observe and which to ignore. By contrast, Americans intend to govern themselves by that document and have such a government. The political separation between those two types of citizens of this land will not be joined.
