While watching a TV program this evening I noticed a "shiny" gold colored monument in the background and became curious about its meaning/purpose.
What I found was: I was seeing the USS Maine monument in New York's Central Park. It was built as a memorial for the 268 sailors who died in the explosion of the USS Maine in Havana (Cuba) Harbor in 1898. Then President "Teddy" Roosevelt used the event as an excuse to enter inter into a war with Spain (The Spanish American War).
Turns out today Feb 15, 2023 is the 125th anniversary of that tragic day.
Some times it is very interesting what you learn when you get a little bit curious.

H**e to rain on your parade but Theodore Roosevelt was not the U.S. President in 1898. He did not become President until September 1901 when McKinley was assassinated on September 14.
