On the other hand, Putin is no dummy. He acted strategically, based on our withdrawal from Afghanistan, but he miscalculated with his invasion. Consider that Obama drew a line in the sand that Russia crossed several times and Obama did nothing. Obama signaled to Putin that he can do anything he wants. Trump was much tougher on Russia than either Obama or Biden. Putin has always admired strong Czars such as Peter the Great. He has always wanted to re-establish Russia as a world power. He considers the breakup of the USSR as the worst geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century.

I can see many of us OPPers' here see what has and is going on over there and know there is much graft and corruption,money laundering, etc al going on which has precipitated this stance.
NATO was put in place when Russia was a C*******T nation.
In 1991 they changed and in my books NATO should have been disbanded.
I hear we approach led Turkey and Seria asking that they participate and contribute to supporting Ukcraine with money and armaments.
They both told USA to go fly a kite.

U.S. tells citizens to leave Russia 'immediately'
The U.S. also said citizens should not visit Russia because of the "unpredictable consequences" of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

The United States on Monday told American citizens in Russia to leave "immediately" due to the risk of wrongful detention or harassment by Russian authorities.

"U.S. citizens residing or traveling in Russia should depart immediately," the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Russia said. "Exercise increased caution due to the risk of wrongful detentions."

The U.S. also said citizens should not visit Russia because of the "unpredictable consequences" of Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, limited ways to travel into and out of the country and the embassy's "limited ability to assist U.S. citizens."ct the expression of individuals, particularly those with whom those presently in power disagree.

"Do not travel to Russia," the advisory also warns.

The U.S. embassy told citizens nearly a year ago to leave Russia over flight cancellation concerns as many airlines stopped providing service to Russia after its invasion of Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov dismissed the alert. He said the warnings "have been voiced by the State Department many times in the last period, so this is not a new thing," Reuters reported.
