I am also guessing that since we must have radio jamming equipment, and the radio waves controlling the balloon likely come from China or somewhere far away, we could have blocked wh**ever self destruct and steering commands were being sent to the unit under the balloon.

That could even have been done from the jet which fired the missile. A few short bursts and the thing goes down slowly.

May hap there are good reasons for not doing it that way which we civilians are unaware of. It might be funny if some Jimmy Olsen type cub reporter could maybe ask Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, that question. I never watch that moron, but in this case I want to see that exchange.
