Today in 1986 the Shuttle Challenge blew up in mid-air. I remember it because I was home from work that day and watching it on TV.

I was at work (at a hospital) and I just happened to be walking by a TV in the lobby when it happened...I will never forget the look on Christa McAuliffe's mother in the crowd...she was looking up and her face went from excited to agony when she realized what just happened.

It was one of the most shocking/agonizing moments in my life. My heart sank for the crew's family members.

And think of all the school children who were watching because there was a teacher on board. Heartbreaking...

I was at college between classes and walked into the student center TV Room to see the shuttle explode. The entire room went totally silent until one girl started crying. It made the rest of the day hard to go to class. Even though most Profs let us go after roll call.

The thing I most remember is the story afterward. As Christine was leaving the house to go for the shuttle ride her husband remarked, "Hey Cristine, I'll feed the kids while you feed the fish."
