It wasn't just McCain... The Bush family used to invite Taliban reps to Texas for cozy get-togethers when they were plotting to put the Taliban in Kabul. The point here is that the very term "terrorist" is subjective. One day we might like someone and the next day we don't and all of a sudden he's a terrorist.

Denying due process to ANYONE is a mistake. Our constitution set up a good justice system, which can seem slow at times but that's the cost of being fair. The moment we start bypassing it for a selected group of people, we set the precedent for more selected people. I noticed on this forum there is a lot of value placed on the 2nd Amendment as a way to defend ourselves from potential tyranny, but I guarantee you the moment anyone picks up a gun for that purpose he will be called a terrorist. A terrorist that maybe fighting for his freedom and his family but a terrorist nevertheless who will be denied any chance to be heard.

This is how police states deal with opposition... they just make them disappear in the middle of the night. This way it's hard for any counter movement to even develop. The War on Terrorism that Bush started and Obama is continuing is an incubator for police state systems and anyone within our weakening democracy that accepts the denial of due process to anyone is an accessory.
