For decades, anti-gun groups have been trying to scare Americans into getting rid of their guns, with the claim that you’re more likely to have a problem if you have guns in your home, than if you don’t. But wh**ever they’ve been doing all these years apparently hasn’t been working. Not only have Americans been acquiring guns at record levels, Gallup recently reported that 63 percent of Americans now believe that having guns at home makes them safer, nearly double the percentage reporting the same belief 14 years ago.

Furthermore, Gallup found, support for having guns at home is shared by majorities of men and women, white and other Americans, people in all major geographic regions of the country, and Republicans and Independents. Only among Democrats does a majority still believe that having a gun at home makes them less safe.

Just the facts without name-calling or an emotional melt down.

You've done it now. You brought in facts to off set their emotions. Let the games begin.

I think that's entirely a personal choice. I don't have any guns at my home, but I have plenty of other weapons and I feel quite safe. Besides, no one really knows for sure, until an incident happens and you have to do something about it. Having a gun, when there's no threat, may make you feel safe - as long as there continues to be no threat, but if you don't know how to use it, or freeze when the time comes - then the safety was an illusion.

Safety is a state of mind. If you possess something that makes you feel safe, but you're not prepared mentally to deal with a threat, then you're putting yourself and those with you in danger. Owning a gun, in and of itself, does NOT make a person safer and in fact, may put them in even more danger. Everyone should think these things through, make a choice and then commit to that choice and all it implies. That would mean training, both mental and physical, to develop the necessary mindset that would allow them to properly use the "safety" devices they've chosen. But that's just me.

As Officer Friday, of D**gnet fame, used to say, "just the facts".

From: Pew Research, Center for the People and the Press
Date: March 12, 2013.

"The General Social Survey (GSS), conducted roughly every two years by the independent research organization, NORC, at the University of Chicago, with principle funding from the National Science Foundation, provides a widely used look at the rate of gun ownership over time.

THE GSS DATA SHOW A SUBSTANTIAL DECLINE IN THE SHARES OF BOTH HOUSEHOLDS AND INDIVIDUALS WITH GUNS.

When the GSS first asked about gun ownership in1973---49% reported having a gun or revolver in their home or garage.

In 2012---34% said they had a gun in their home or garage."

Obviously, contrary to what the gun fetishists would have you believe, the overwhelming majority of Americans are not all that enthusiastic about owning private firearms.

Anyone coming into my house uninvited needs to bring their own body bag. (I don't supply them, I just fill them).

I guess you can expect the FBI to come see you, now that you've confessed to being a serial k**ler. Didn't think of that, did you!

Paul Ohle, 69, was at home baking around 9 a.m. when he heard more than a dozen bangs on his front door. By the time he made it to the door, a man had already forced his way inside. The man told Ohle that he needed help, so Ohle picked up his cell phone to call 911. The man grabbed the phone from Ohle and pushed him onto the sofa. He ordered Ohle to stay where he was as he tried to take his television. Ohle struggled with the man, but managed to get to the .38-cal. handgun he kept in his bedroom. Ohle fired multiple rounds k*****g the intruder. Ohle was later taken to an area hospital where he was treated and released. (Hickory Daily Record, Hickory, NC, 2/26/13)

Charlie Blackmore was driving home around 4 a.m. when he spotted a woman being assaulted along the side of the road. A man had pushed her to the ground and was kicking her repeatedly in the head and stomach. Blackmore stopped his car and ordered the man to stop the attack. The assailant then turned his attention to Blackmore and began approaching him. Thanks to Wisconsin’s new concealed-carry law, Blackmore was able to draw his pistol and hold the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived. The woman was treated for what appeared to be a broken nose and large laceration on her face. (TheBlaze.com, West Allis, WI, 3/15/13)

A woman was at home when she noticed a vehicle she did not recognize in her driveway. A man she did not know came to her door and began knocking and ringing the doorbell. The woman grabbed her handgun for protection because the man seemed suspicious. Before she could answer the door, the man allegedly kicked it in and entered the woman’s home. Upon seeing the handgun pointed in his direction, the man fled. As he drove away, the woman took a photo of the vehicle with her cell phone. That photo later led to the arrest of the man who had broken into her home. (The Northwest Indiana Times, Merrillville, IN, 3/22/13)

Kim Lanphere was walking near a light rail station, one of her regular stops, when a 23-year-old man nearby gave her an uneasy feeling. Her instincts were proven right when the man approached her and said, “Lady, I’ve got a gun, give me your bag!” Another woman carrying a licensed firearm was near the station at the time of the incident and witnessed the man threatening to shoot Lanphere. The witness didn’t hesitate to pull out her Glock and order the suspect to drop his weapon. The suspect then fled the scene, but was later arrested and now faces aggravated robbery charges. No shots were fired during the incident. (WFAA.com, Dallas, TX, 3/24/14)

Dinah Burns was walking her dog on a path near an elementary school when two men approached her with a baseball bat. One of the men said, “You’re coming with us.” Burns asked what they wanted as she reached into her pocket. When the man with the baseball bat came toward her and raised the bat aggressively, Burns pulled out the firearm she carried. She pointed the gun at them and said, “I have this and I’m not afraid to use it.” Both assailants backed off immediately and fled the scene. Burns and her dog were left unharmed, and no shots were fired. “[I’m] very thankful that it turned out the way it did, and hope it doesn’t happen again, but I will be prepared,” Burns said. After the office door was closed, staff members at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital reported hearing loud arguing inside. The staff opened the door and saw a patient holding a doctor and caseworker at gunpoint. They immediately dialed 911. Gunshots were heard a short time later. The caseworker was shot and k**led by the gunman. The doctor was grazed by the gunfire, and promptly pulled out his own gun and returned fire. When the patient emerged from the office, he was wrestled to the floor and disarmed by another doctor and caseworker. The suspect sustained multiple gunshot wounds, but was reportedly expected to recover. The doctor was expected to recover from his wounds as well. Many praise the doctor’s actions, which likely saved lives. The responding police chief said of the incident, “Without that firearm, this guy [the patient] could have went out in the hallway and just walked down the offices [shooting] until he ran out of ammunition.” (Bucks County Courier Times, Darby, PA, 7/25/14)

Victoria Davison was approached by two teenagers. One teen demanded, “I want the keys, car, everything.” When Davison hesitated to comply with the carjackers, one of them indicated they had a gun. That is when Davison pulled out her own firearm from her gym bag and fired. One assailant suffered a single gunshot wound and fell to the ground, while the second assailant fled on foot. Both suspects were later apprehended and face charges of armed robbery and theft. Both suspects were reportedly connected to a recent string of robberies and carjackings, one of which resulted in the shooting of a 43-year-old man. Davison was not injured during the incident.
