If I were the ultimate despot in charge and decided to crown myself permanent King, first thing I’d do is destroy any e******n’s ability to remove me from office. North Korea comes to mind.
I’m pretty sure that if the Marxist party here were to remain in power for three terms, our nation would be over, and within a couple of decades the next great extinction would be inevitable.

Well I dare say, Hitler had some bit of charisma, and though Trump may have a powerful bit of charisma I don’t think he’s on that ‘evil’ side of things.
But if he were to switch to the dark side after 12,16,20 years, he’d have so much control as to be unstoppable.
E******ns may be mans greatest concept, but if there’s a way to bastardize a good thing, it’ll happen. Just the way of man.

I have never understood the idea of limiting how many times a politician runs.. Seems undemocratic...

The problem is the longer someone holds the top job in any country the more entrenched they become. In Western countries that means they have more money and connections than newcomers, hardly making e******ns fair. After FDR they put term limits on Presidents. In our Senate the problem is more obvious. Some Senators have no chance of ever being defeated.

Senators like Strom Thurmond served well past when they were mentally capable. Today Sen. Feinstein is failing and should have been replaced some time ago.

I have watched Western Commentators talk about President Xi. They say he is paranoid, and will never peaceably leave power. He is more concerned with keeping his power than he is with doing what is best for his country. So they say. Not just political commentators, but business talking heads talking about why it is no longer easy to invest in China for Western Corporations.
