What you are claiming to be an "assault weapon" is, in all probability, just a semi-automatic rifle. Unless he had a true automatic weapon - which are heavily regulated and extremely rare in criminal use.

What you call "assault weapon" is in fact a modern sporting rifle designed for hunting, target sports, and self defense. The t***h is that it IS a popular choice among demented and unhinged lunatics and criminals, for various reasons. But so what?
And yet YOU, along with pretty much the entire left leaning population are ALSO unhinged because you believe the solution to a problem is to remove the tools instead of confining or stopping the criminal.
Thus we had laws for decades banning automatic knives, even though most knife crimes are committed with kitchen knives....specifically steak knives.
You have many MANY more people k**led and hurt each year in vehicular homicide and attacks than you do with firearms, and that is disregarding accidents caused by stupid and impaired drivers.
You have numerous murders each year by strangulation and by blunt object. Yet I have not seen you, even once, ask about 'assault pillows' or 'assault hammers' or mandated gloves that will not allow a mugger to strangle a victim.
There is no logic or reason to gun control arguments.
Criminals DO NOT obey laws.
Limiting one tool only makes criminals seek other tools.
The left claims 'words mean things' and use the phrase to blame Republicans for violence, ignoring the absolute FACT that far and away the most words encouraging intolerance and violence come from the woke left and Democrats.
Far more people will die from criminal activity if the law abiding citizen is disarmed than will EVER die in these mass murders events committed by lunatics.
Mass attacks are a symptom of a sick society and culture, and treating the symptoms will not help stop the disease.
Finding a workable 'treatment' requires an understanding of what is the root cause of the disease.....something the left in general is incapable of doing because they see EVERYthing through the lens of political advantage, and so that is what they look for....not solutions.
The primary purpose of an armed citizenry is to put caution and physical limits to the ambitions of politicians to become authoritarian. It is the ULTIMATE in democracy!

There is a very specific legal definition of an assault weapon it is the only legitimate legal description of an assault weapon and it is contained in the The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994. The weapons described in this act can be purchased retail without an FFA. Some misinformed people who know little about firearms or the law believe that only weapons capable of burst or fully automatic fire are considered assault weapons. By the only legal definition this is factually wrong and born of ignorance.

Then the description in the VCC and LE Act of 1994 was written by the ignorant and is factually wrong. Simple as that. Sporting rifles are NOT assault weapons by any reasonable and knowledgeable definition. Any more than calling a steak knife a 'tactical weapon'. A law passing calling a spoon a fork does not change what each are designed to do, nor do intelligent people refer to them as the left desires.
