Keystone Pipeline

As reported by T***sCanada at the senate committee meetings could generate somewhere from 2,500 jobs to 4,650 temporary jobs for 2 years. This was reported by the company building the pipeline. They have since generated some very wild numbers since that hearing in the senate that was televised on CSPAN which I watched. And none of this garbage being posted by Boehner or McConnell comes even close to what these people testified to.

Rather than bringing us energy security it will t***sport dirty Canadian oil through Americas Heartland's, for delivery to China and other countries. Rather than oil independence it will leave a legacy of poisoned lands and water all for at most 100 permanent jobs and a few billion $ in tax revenue.

Besides the Nebraska court ruling on eminent Domain ruling the governor did not have the right to approve such a project on his own. For congress to bypass this ruling is against the constitution. But what happen to the GOPTP agenda on states rights. ????????

So let's look at a few things and let's start with leaks. Do these pipelines leak yes all the time. They leak because of rust from the water in the oil. Tar sands oil contains a lot more water than most oils, because of the way it is extracted with super heated water and chemicals. The water mixes with the dirt which forms a sludge in the bottom of the pipe which breeds bacteria that will produce sulfur and the process of corrosion from inside speeds up.

The first symptom of corrosion is what's called pinhole leaks. A pinhole leak of 2% is not detectable by keystone instruments of leak detection. So if a leak accrues it may not be noticed for months. So if a 2% leak of 485,000 barrels per day leaks for 90 days or before it comes to the surface or someone does not notice it over 400 acres could be contaminated with flooded oil. This floode oil could reach our rivers and steams with rain runoff and fall runoff. You could go a full winter from snow cover and frozen ground before anybody notices it.

A pinhole leak under water in a wetlands will not get noticed unless there is an actual burst in the line. And keystone passes over countless wetlands that drain into lake Ashtabula and the Cheyenne. Pipelines also split along there seams and will fracture under high pressure and this causes high levels of spill. And Keystone oil needs very high pressures to pipe this heavy oil.

Also the keystone pipe thickness is going to be a lot less thinner that what was used in Alaska. So it will take less time to corrode and run a risk of a seam burst.

Let's talk leak detections it offers real time , non stop monitoring along the lines route. When the sensor detects a sharp change in pressure or flow rate it sets off an alarm. Then company personnel conduct additional tests to determine if there actually is a leak.

Alarms can be triggered by non- threatening activities for example buildup in bubbles which generates alarms constantly. What happens in fact some operators get use to constant false alarms, and many times they become dismissive of real leaks. I found a number of examples but just to verify I looked up the Enbrige leak in July of 2010 which discharged more than 1 million gallons of oil into Michigan's Kalamazoo river. They estimated up to 1000 false alarms per month. But keep in mode that leak detection will not send an alarm for a 2% leak.

(If you get 1000 false alarms per month, what happens when you get a real alarm. How do you know the difference). (YOU DON'T)

Although leak detection does work the overwhelming majority of pipeline leaks , spills, ruptures, were discovered by someone near the leaks. Now what does disturb me the most is leak detection through deregulation is not required throughout the pipeline only in environmental areas. This regulation was supported by the GOPTP at the Senate hearings. So leak detection cannot always distinguish between leaks and normal fluctuations.

Now the pipeline is projected to carry 830,000 barrels per day through a 36 inch pipeline. Estimates depending on who you want to listen to varies from 1,500 to 7,000 temporary jobs and up to 100 per infant jobs.

The pipeline will crossover rivers wider than 100 feet. Such as the Missouri, Platte, Niobrara, and 11 others. Can anybody understand what a 2% leak undetected for any amount of time the amount of pollutants will be in these rivers.

Somebody needs to explain to me how a 36 inch pipeline run over 890 miles is going to create 575,000 jobs as John Boehner and Mich McConnell keep telling us. T***sCanada the people building this pipeline say a maximum of 4,650 and 100 permanent jobs. Some say in the area of 7,000 temporary jobs. Now originally T***sCanada said that all pipe fittings and steel would be manufactured in this country that would have created an additional 2,000 temporary jobs is now going to be imported from Korea. So just using a little common sense 890 miles of 36 inch pipe will take 646 men per mile.

So we build this pipeline across rivers streams, environmental sensitive areas pump it to the Koch Brothers refinery in Texas load it on a barge and sell it on the international market. This has no benefit to this country it makes no sense.

So if the GOPTP is concerned about a few temporary jobs which is stunning to say the least. Why are they blocking the American jobs act and we have tons of roads and bridges in need of repairs that would actually create thousands and thousands of actual good paying jobs. But let's not stand in the way of Boehners stock portfolio and the Koch Brothers machine. This is propaganda at its best. And the Koch brothers are great at fooling the American people after all you don't become one of the richest guys in the world by telling the t***h all the time. They are very bright but also very slick.

But it appears that the democrats are going to cave in on this issue and when the OPP bloggers realize the issues around this pipeline was a pipe dream it will be t late. But let's give the GOPTP what they want the v**ers have told us to back off and give them what they want.

Didn't you clowns say the same derogatory comments about the Alaskan pipeline? Don't say you didn't. Liberals screamed bloody murder about the damage the pipeline would do. Newsflash. You guys were wrong again. You guys said in the seventies we would be frozen in the 90's. Wrong again. Now you want us to panic because you found info that backs your ideological views. Pardon us for being skeptics.

I've never heard that number either! Its just more propaganda from the limp wrist'd lefties. Its screwed up the way liberals look at job creation. If it only created 1000 jobs..that's one thousand jobs more than we had before the pipeline! and it 1000 less jobless people. Liberals are simply against anything that's productive! You see...that goes against everything a liberal stands for! If people have jobs, they have no need for welfare, and if the liberals can't keep people on welfare they would lose the majority of their v**ers.
