Stacy is right. The fetal heartbeat that is supposed to be detected early in a pregnancy is a widening of a tube that contracts. A real heart is not developed untill much later.

That tube that widens and contracts is pulsing & pumping blood; IOW, it is a ‘heart’. Not yet fully developed, but nonetheless a heart. Technical term: embryonic cardiac activity - aka - a heartbeat.
