“The mainstream media do nothing about [the lies],” Sachs continued, “just amplifies them. And it’s getting pretty dangerous. That’s the real problem. It’s a very dangerous time right now because we seem not to be able to have an adult conversation about almost anything, in the mainstream.”4
Over the past several months, the U.S. has poured billions of tax dollars into Ukraine, ostensibly to help Ukraine fight for freedom and preserve democracy. Sachs tells Brand that when he grew up, newspapers enjoyed dissing on political figures. But now, “these papers don’t do anything but repeat the lies. And it’s extremely strange to me.”5 Due to his experience, Sachs knows a lot of reporters, and they actually tell him that they’re unable to report freely:6
“They tell me privately, ‘Yeah, what you’re saying is right, but our editor is not so interested in it’ … Corporate ownership, yes, it’s definitely part of it. But the complete collapse of professionalism in journalism in these mainstream media — not everywhere, because there are some really brave people out there — but in, what we call the mainstream, it's pathetic and very dangerous.”
Even as the war grows increasingly dangerous, there is no open discussion — only a one-sided dictate that’s spread over the airwaves. Sachs explained:7

It was pretty amazing to me after 20 years. I couldn’t post a piece. And that’s not good, in my view.”
What does this level of censorship and control suggest? The clues can be found in our heavily militarized government, which is the overarching theme across party lines:8

We’re told every day in the mainstream media — an unprovoked war that started on February 24, 2022, which is false,” Sachs said. “There’s a history to this. There was a way to avoid this war. Biden didn’t choose it. But none of it is properly debated at all. That’s really what we’re facing.”9
Sachs, in fact, pleaded with the White House to negotiate peace and discourage Ukraine from joining NATO. They refused, saying anyone has the right to join NATO if they want to. But as astutely noted by Sachs, this isn’t about the “right” of Ukraine to join NATO, it’s about the threat that poses to its neighbors, Russia in particular.
Russia has long been very clear about the fact that it will not allow Ukraine to join NATO, for the simple fact that it would place a NATO military presence right on its border. Russia wants Ukraine to remain an independent “buffer zone” between itself and NATO countries.
Would the U.S. be fine with Mexico forming a military alliance with China, installing Chinese military at our southern border? Sachs wonders. That’s highly unlikely, yet that’s what they’re pursuing in Ukraine.
Since Russia’s entry into Ukraine, the U.S. has done nothing but push for the escalation of conflict, to the point that we’re now hearing predictions about nuclear war. Why would we take such risks? To take a stand for Ukraine’s “right” to join NATO? It’s beyond irrational, but that’s where we are.
Who Blew Up the Nord Stream Pipelines?
Another piece to the puzzle lies with who blew up the Nord Stream pipelines. September 26, 2022, massive “leaks” were detected in two Russian pipelines, Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2, which deliver natural gas from Russia to Europe underneath the Baltic Sea. Within a couple of days, several countries, including Russia, agreed the leaks were the result of intentional sabotage or an act of terrorism. But the question remains: Who did it?
Western officials and media have by and large blamed Russia itself. The Washington Post suggested Russian President Vladimir Putin is “fully weaponizing the Nord Stream pipelines.” Bob Rae, Canada’s ambassador to the United Nations, accused Russia of “using pollution as an act of war.”10
The Center for Strategic and International Studies admitted that Russia’s motives for attacking its own pipelines are unclear, but that it “may be warning and signaling to Europe and the West that it is willing to target civilian infrastructure.”11 Putin has dismissed such allegations as “stupid,” and is placing the blame on the West, the U.S. in particular.12 Sachs weighed in with his take on who did it:13
“It’s pretty interesting who blew up the Nord Stream Pipeline. Americans consider the Russian people to be propagandized, poorly-educated, uninformed, ignorant, brutish. Hell, I've even heard the lie that the Russian military can't make war.
The t***h is, though, and the irony is here: Russians know far more about the world than either Americans and Canadians do about the Russian Federation, or about China, or India or (for that matter, and closer to home) about South America.
Yet ... our propaganda tells us that Russians are an ignorant people because they live in a "propaganda state."
How many Americans know that Vladimir Putin brokered the Minsk 2 Accord, in 2014, which has been repeatedly violated by Ukraine?
How many Americans know, for example, that the people of the Donetsk People's Republic have been at war now for eight years and have been begging Russia to step in and put an end to it?
Did you know, for example, that Russian casualties in the 2nd World War totaled 13.7% of the population of their country? 27 million people. One out of every seven of its citizens. For what it's worth: only 8.6 million of those casualties were uniformed soldiers.
For the USA, that percentage was only 0.32% (Russia sustained a casualty rate 43 times greater than the USA's).
For Canada, that percentage was 0.38% (Russia suffered casualties that were 36 times greater than Canada's).
Russia is standing for its sovereignty. For the Russian people, this is a war for survival. The people of Russia remember. And Russians can absorb all the pain the West can inflict.
I just find it impossible to believe that Ukraine will win this war. Friend, that just ain't gonna happen.
Last Thursday (February 9) marked 33 years since US Secretary of State James Baker, in order to secure Soviet support for the reunification of Germany (essentially ceding East Germany to NATO), assured Mikhail Gorbachev that "not an inch of NATO's present military jurisdiction will spread in an eastern direction."
NATO has since added 13 member countries, with the exception of Yugoslavia, all were formerly aligned with the Soviet Union (Warsaw Pact nations).
Russia did very little until NATO began arming a neo-n**i regime in Ukraine, which borders Russia. Russia will not (and should not) allow such a regime to threaten its own nation.
Russia did not annex the four provinces of the Donbass in order to extend the Russian Federation. Those provinces were annexed because the population of that region is predominantly Russian. Those people are being protected because they are Russian. Russia is a unified nation; Russians share a common culture, history and language that are more important than geography and politics.
The United States is totally different, and pretends to be one nation/one state, which it is not. The core of the American empire is ethnically Anglo-Saxon, and that group is shrinking, but absolutely clings to wealth andpower, embodied in a worldwide empire and a military-industrial economy at home. Those Americans who are not members of this ethnic group are essentially being reduced (under late-state capitalism) to machines of consumption. They no longer hold, as a people, the power to determine their own future. What is often termed "social cohesion" has collapsed in the United States. France, Germany, Great Britain ... other NATO countries ... all facing the same problem.
The ideology of N**ism in its modern manifestation is again creating direct threats to the security of Russia.

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen provided a more precise assessment of the issue by explicitly stating that the United States could default on its obligations as early as June 2023 if the matter of the US public debt reaching its legal ceiling were not addressed.
According to Yellen, the outcome of this potential event would be nothing short of a “new global financial crisis.” At present, the Treasury is utilizing “extraordinary measures” in an effort to delay this possibility as much as possible, thus enabling the continued payment of bills until the crisis is resolved
