When you measure the number of bird k**ls, costs of importing components and the wind vanes are not recyclable, wind power is a real rip off.

I was at South Point in Hawaii, and there was a small wind farm there. I wondered about bird k**ls by windmills, so I looked for bird k**ls. I didn't see any dead birds. I also heard about some automatic raptor detectors on windmills in the Midwest that stop bird k**ls.
Media bias reports that that just the news has a definite conservative bent and is rated as a mixed for the t***h. So keep that in mind as you read this article.

You are truly one ignoramous! Do some research instead of accepting hearsay! Here is something to rattle your cage!

One, the night critters are having a feast. Maybe where you were, they already k**led off all the birds in the area.

Large birds tend to soar and look down for game. The blade come at them before they realize it and they can't move quick enough to escape. Small birds fly rather then soaring and are looking around more and can see the blade coming at them. They also have great ability to change directions quickly.

But I always wondered why the blades don't have whistles built into them that would warn off birds and bats. Just a thought.

I found your link to be very fair and informative.. I liked the honesty of the excerpt below...

from your linked article..

Merriman concludes that 1.17 million birds are k**led by wind turbines in the US each year.

This is a lot of birds, but it is only 0.016% of the estimated 7.2 billion birds that live in the US. It is also significantly less than the 5–6.8 million k**led each year by communication towers, the 60–80 million k**led by automobiles, the 67–90 million k**led by pesticides, or the 365 million to one billion k**led by cats each year in the US, according to a study published in Nature.

Those Blow Props are BULLS**T . It takes almost 15 years to even pay for just one . Depending its size . Not counting the maintenance and motor replacement from time to time . Nuthin but a feel good project for the C****Ecrats and Grass munchin . bunny humpin tree huggin Greenie peeps . I'm a retired Welder Fabricator , and welding flanges to bolt sections of those towers together . It's pure 199,999 % BULLS**T

Mr. Yankee... I also h**e to see dead birds... back in the day, I worked for a time on a RR which had me doing some strange things.. one of those strange things was making a quick scan of a tiny nature area they set up for good press. now this area was always littered with dead birds of all kinds.. water fowl, game bird (few) and song birds.. Why? overhead power lines, birds would fly into them be k**led, or become distracted by them and hit some other objects.. Any way in a years time several hundred would be k**led in this very small area.. but many things k**l bird wires and wind generators are both far down the list.. windows are much more deadly.. the most deadly are ordinary cats.. those kitties account for well over 100s of thousands of dead birds each year.. So do I think we should k**l all cats? no. it is what it is, the number of birds, even counting the rare birds of the marsh and woods is so high, none of these make a dent in the population.. we can still hunt, watch, feed and just enjoy the birds as we have for all time and now we can have a better cleaner environment and they will be healthier and safer overall.

Not to mention the all important “carbon foot print” to manufacture the thing, t***sport to site then erect. Just a guess maybe 100,000 years to off set there carbon. You know now that I have started isn’t this a carbon based planet, and everything on this planet is again carbon based. Might suggest to all Libs that offing ones liberal self is in fact SAVING THE PLNET, again off setting the carbon foot print. I can be a nice guy from time to time. So let’s re-start Mars One and at least give them that humain choice .

We are t***sinating from a carbon based electric generating system into noncarbon based system. The cost of a windmill is made back in 3 years. They are cheeper to build and to maintain than carbon baised electric generating plants. So what's your problem? Bird k**ls are way less than bird k**ls bt house cats.
