Years ago our priest taught latin as a college course at our church, which stands adjacent to the campus of a college.
He gave a homily once at Mass about the total lack of any knowledge whatsoever concerning Christianity among the majority of college students who attended his latin classes. Many would ask him with great interest about the things they saw in the church, i.e. advent wreath, candles, altar, cross, crucifix, stained glass windows, etc.
As far as many of them knew, Jesus Christ was a swear word. They were not anti-Christian, they just had no idea of or exposure to religion at all.
We have a campus ministry but it was surprising to know just how deeply secular and uninformed the youngest generation is.
