Many of the products now on the market were not requested by consumers who did not even imagine the concept of that product. Inventors and manufactures came up with new ideas and hoped that they would catch the public's eye once presented If they did, then they were marketed and were produced in greater numbers. If they didn't catch on, then the investors, manufacturers and inventors lost millions of dollars on an unsuccessful gamble. Such is the result when a new product or idea is introduced, it is always a gamble. The "progressives" choose not to understand this basic concept as it gets in the way of their dream of a Marxist Utopia.
