Sun spots are not all equal. Some small produce many times the increased CME's than spots a hundreds times larger.
The Australian observatory labels this monster , producing M class flares capability. The most powerful X class, X-1 -X-2 our grid would survive a direct hit, but there would be areas down do to t***sformers blown and switches, switched off. Once we get into the X-3 and above, a direct hit would be more troublesome, but still only effecting the Sunlit side of earth and biggest impacts North and South Poles, satellites would have issues but most would survive, cell service issues .
X-5 A direct hit to America, likely would take down one third to one half of America's grid, about one quarter of all satellites. The most Northern areas would have highest impact, likely impacting home electronics, car batteries, computer chips, the dark ages. Florida and Texas regions may escape complete loss, Further down south America may completely escape.
An X-10 Class would wipe out every inch of the sunlit surface of earth's anything electric and even extend damage on non sunlit side of earth. Considering most of earth's nations would be driven back into the dark ages, nearly half of the world's population would perish.
