Roughly 1.5 years later, a number of the people who were arrested for taking part in the J*** 6 Capitol r**ts are still sitting in prison, with some of them even being relegated to solitary confinement for long periods.

While their detainment has been called into question by major, high-profile figures on the right, including some in the media, former President Donald Trump himself claimed recently that if he becomes president once again, there could be pardons coming down for those individuals, The Hill reports.

Trump hasn’t yet announced officially his intention to run again in 2024, but has hinted strongly at the prospect repeatedly.

The 45th president made the remarks at a recent Faith and Freedom conference in Nashville, Tennessee.

“Very, very seriously”

Trump, during his speech, touched on the situation concerning a number of 1*6 protesters still behind held in jail, adding that they’re “having their lives totally destroyed and being treated worse than terrorists and murderers.”

The former president said some of them were arrested simply for “parading through the Capitol.”

“And if I become president, someday if I decide to do it, I will be looking at them very, very seriously for pardons. Very, very seriously,” Trump said, which drew immediate applause from the audience.

“They’ve been treated very unfairly.”

He added that he would “treat those people from J*** 6 fairly.”

The timing

Trump’s promise to look into pardons came in the wake of the J*** 6 House select committee completing its third installment of televised hearings. During each hearing, committee members have presented video footage and other so-called “evidence” to make it appear as if Trump incited the event.

Many believe that the committee has already made up its mind in that regard, but is going through the motions to make a grand presentation to Attorney General Merrick Garland so that he can eventually file a criminal charge against the former president.

That, some say, will be enough to at least knock Trump off the 2024 ticket, though Mr. Trump seems to have a way of deflecting most of the garbage that Democrats throw his way.
