Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) railed against the indictment of former Trump White House adviser Peter Navarro while saying in an interview on Friday that “if you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you.”

Gohmert, speaking to Newsmax in an interview on Friday, was asked to comment on the Friday indictment of Navarro by a federal grand jury after the former Trump official failed to comply with the House select committee investigating the J*** 6, 2021, Capitol r**t.

“It actually puts an exclamation point on the fact that we have a two-tiered justice system. If you’re a Republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you. They’re gon'na bury you. They’re gon'na put you in the D.C. jail and terrorize and torture you and not live up to the Constitution there,” Gohmert responded.

He argued that there was a double standard to how Democrats and Republicans were being treated, pointing to the acquittal of prominent Democratic attorney Michael Sussman, who was being investigated by special counsel John Durham, as one example.

“So, it’s very clear. If you’re a Democrat, then you can lie. You can c***t. You can do wh**ever you want,” he said.

The Hill has reached out to Gohmert’s office for further comment and clarification on his remarks.

The development comes against the backdrop of Navarro’s indictment, who is facing two charges of criminal contempt of Congress after being subpoenaed by the House select committee.

The committee is interested in hearing from the former Trump official, looking to hear possible evidence regarding efforts to have the 2020 e******n results overturned by allies of former President Trump.

“Who are these people?” Navarro asked during his court appearance on Friday. “This is not America. I mean, I was a distinguished public servant for four years and nobody ever questioned my ethics. And they’re treating me in this fashion.”

Does the topic of conversation fly COMPLETELY over your head? What he was pointing out is how many times the democrats were literally caught lieing (and under oath too) and the FBI or DOJ were silent and did nothing about it. Now the FBI and DOJ are totally c*********d by one political party. That a pretty n**i approach in our government and should not be allowed to stand period.

Sorry, L-T. In your case, clever would be a very low bar to strive for and not worth my effort. T***h be known, these stories only confirm what an embarrassment Gohmert is to Texas, his party and constituents.

Your usual pathetic attempts to turn things around. Full t***h and integrity in your posts are what is not worth your effort.

Ah yes - the often used l*****t response when challenged about their facts/comments and are unable to respond: "It's not worth my effort".

Don't be too hard on yourself - perhaps one day you will recognize 'the pearl'.

Michael Sussman verdict brings out the GOP snowflakes...to include Louis Gohmert.

In a case that never should have been brought to trial as it was a waste of everyone’s time (according to a juror). Michael Sussman was found not guilty of lying to the FBI. After 3 years and millions of dollars of taxpayer money, the investigation led by John Durham has come up empty in its first and only trial.

The charge was weak and corroborating evidence non-existent in this case, which had been widely heralded by Donald Trump and the Radical Right talking heads as proof of the duplicity and “crookedness” of Hillary Clinton in the 2016 P**********l campaign. I will not bore everyone with the details; they are easily available online. I will just report that the Durham prosecutors claimed that attorney Sussman lied to an FBI agent about for whom he was working. Sussman said he didn’t. There were no witnesses or contemporaneous notes taken - so it was the classic “he said/he said” between Sussman and James Baker, the agent with whom Sussman interviewed in September, 2016.

The jury unanimously decided to acquit after 6 hours of deliberations spread over two days. So, OK. This was a criminal case in which the prosecution failed to prove guilt “beyond a reasonable doubt” before a jury of the defendant's peers. American jurisprudence at work, right? The way it is written up and supposed to work. Someone accused of a crime, indicted, brought to trial, evidence presented to the jury and the jury decides. It is in all the textbooks, movies, and TV dramas.

Not according to the Trump camp! John Durham, the Special Prosecutor himself, only said that he was disappointed. Trump and his sycophants, though, went on a whine-fest of almost Biblical proportions.

Donald and Junior immediately sobbed that the “Legal system is corrupt” and that “the acquittal came from a “Clinton donor jury!” Glenn Beck (remember him?) and former Attorney General Bill Barr mourned that there was a double standard weighted against Republicans in the justice system. The House Judiciary GOP tweeted (with tears running down their beaks) that “The Swamp always protects its own”. Ron Johnson (R-WI), fresh from clueless comments about mass shootings and eager to get back to the more familiar pastime of bashing Democrats, joined his moans and sniffles to Beck and Barr that there are “two separate systems in the judicial system; one for Democrats and one for everybody else.”

Wow. So many snowflakes you could build a fort. For reference let’s finish by taking a look at a similar case, that of Mike Flynn, Trump’s first national security advisor. Accused of lying about his Russian contacts during the Trump P**********l campaign, Flynn lied and said he didn’t lie. When presented with proof, he then entered a guilty plea saying, “Yeah, I lied about not lying.” Later he withdrew his guilty plea, thereby asserting that he lied when he said that he lied about not lying in the first place. He would probably still be lying about everything if the lame-duck Trump hadn’t pardoned him for lying in the first place.

It's what l*****ts do/ Concentrate on one statement/overlook the entire point. Gohmert wasn't complaining that Republicans don't get to lie...he was complaining the Democrat/C*******ts not only get away with lying, it's dismissed when they are caught like it never happened, or worse, the Democrat/C*******ts just keep repeating lies that are KNOWN lies. The word is hypocrisy.

Read my last post. Indeed, hypocrite is the word that describes/fits Gohmert and his ilk.

Some disingenuous folks like to pick and choose their verbage. That's probably the same way they read the Bible, and the reason they are corrupt beyond understanding......

Congressman Louis Gohmert is indignant because: “If you’re a republican, you can’t even lie to Congress or lie to an FBI agent or they’re coming after you!" Is he right to have a problem with our justice system over this?

Actually, you can’t lie to Congress or the FBI no matter who in the hell you are! That’s exactly how the law is written and how it is meant to be enforced. Being a republican is not some kind of magic shield that protects one from prosecution or that conveys special privileges.

Gohmert is bats**t crazy if he thinks he’s not supposed to get his ass kicked when he breaks the law, just because he’s a republican. He used to be the only one, then Mo Brooks came and now there is MTG and Lauren Boebert. Clowns keep running and getting elected when they’re republicans, so they need to get that clown car now.

I remember a time when the craziest person in the House was just Dennis Kucinich. His crazy was just harmless UFO stuff, the republican crazy is dangerous
