A World Health Organization senior official said on Friday that the priority needs to be containing monkeypox in nonendemic countries, saying that this can be achieved through quick action.

Countries should take quick steps to contain the spread of monkeypox and share data about their v*****e stockpiles, a senior World Health Organization official said on Friday.
"We think that if we put in place the right measures now we probably can contain this easily," Sylvie Briand, WHO director for Global Infectious Hazard Preparedness, told the U.N. agency's annual assembly.

Monkeypox is a usually mild v***l infection that is endemic in parts of west and central Africa.

It spreads chiefly through close contact and until the recent outbreak, was rarely seen in other parts of the world, which is why the recent emergence of cases in Europe, the United States and other areas has raised alarms.

So far, there are about 300 confirmed or suspected cases in around 20 countries where the v***s was not previously circulating.

"For us, we think that the key priority currently is trying to contain this t***smission in non-endemic countries," Briand told a technical briefing for member states.

Needed measures included the early detection and isolation of cases and contact tracing, she added.

Member states should also share information about first generation stockpiles of smallpox v*****es which can also be effective against monkeypox, Briand said.

Do not panic about Monkey Pox. It is only contagious if you have close contact with an infected person, like a family member or, say have sex with someone. This is not C***d which you can get if you are in the same room with a infected person for 2 minutes. Also if you were born before about 1980,or so, you were v******ted against small pox. The small pox v*****e also works for Monkey pox, Camel pox snd Cow pox. The v*****e is espically long lasting, possibly for your entier life. So I don't remember when we stopped v******tions for small pox but a large portion of the US population is protected.
