Welfare payments would get her by. Guaranteed income offers no incentive to better herself. And if she was a senior, did she not have her husband's survivor benefits? Or her own from her working life for that matter? Or does Canada not have a Social Security system?

Guaranteed Income will never work. I know plenty of seniors that never planned and all they have is Social Security. They barely scrape by. Many times they are scraping by not because of anything they did. That's when Church's, at least church's like mine and other charitable organizations step in. One of the reason's socialism never works is because the model doesn't make the majority richer to be equal. It makes them poorer. The ones at the top gain even more power.

Yes. We have to stop that. Euthanasia will save us lots of money.

Social security is a contributory system. It's more like a 401k with a really lousy return.

If you think you are being witty - I suggest you don't give up your day job.

Of course, that seems to be your escape mechanism when bested.

There is no good argument for a "living wage guaranteed income".

Do you think you have one?

Absolutely not~~~ all it would do is increase
tax ion the wealthy, while others say corporations should be taxed…

And if talking a Universal living wage guarantee well geez just consider what that really means~ governmental control on a worldwide basis sounds more like the “one world order” to me…

A “guaranteed income program” amounts to yet another social service welfare program for those not making a “ good income or not working and provides assistance to families in need quickly, with little bureaucracy, and can fill gaps left by existing “ causes” of the inequity.. And who pays for that ??? Once again our taxes… And not all people qualify for it it’s for those with a lower poverty level. At least the ones I’ve read about…

What are you saying here, Canada has their own CPP, right? Calculated differently I understand that part of it but it’s still the same concept and you’re still paying for it. Against your will at least for some…??

Canada Pension Plan (CPP) vs. U.S. Social Security
Both offer benefits, but what you pay in—and get out—differs

The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) and the U.S. Social Security system are publicly provided mandatory old-age pension systems. They both provide retirement, disability, and survivor benefits. But the amount you pay in and the benefits you receive differ between the two.

Both the Canadian Pension Plan (CPP), and Social Security in the U.S., are government-sponsored retirement income programs.
CPP tax rates and income thresholds are generally lower than those of Social Security. Benefits also tend to be lower.
Taxed Canadian wages go into a trust fund managed by the CPP Investment Board, which invests the funds in stocks, bonds, and other assets.
Taxed U.S. Social Security wages go into the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund and the Disability Insurance Trust Fund. The funds are invested entirely in U.S. Treasury securities.
Social Security faces the risk of its reserve funds being depleted by 2033, which would make it unable to pay full benefits to retirees. The CPP doesn't have this problem.
What Is the Canada Pension Plan?
The Canada Pension Plan (CPP) is one of three levels of the Canadian retirement income system.1 It was established in 1966 to provide retirement, survivor, and disability benefits. Almost everyone who works in Canada, outside of Quebec, contributes to the CPP. A separate Quebec Pension Plan (QPP) provides similar benefits to its residents.
