I thought I would introduce myself to everyone. My real name is Jeff Parsons but I go by the handle madrael. Rael is a fictional character from the old Genesis album "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway."

I was manager of a grocery store for many years, but in my forties I decided I wanted to go to college and graduated from The Ohio State University with a masters degree in Social Work. My specialty is mental health and addiction.

Social Workers do tend to be liberal and I am no exception. However, I do enjoy intelligent debate and am willing to admit when I am wrong. But remember, I am a trained therapist so I know how to mess with your head (just kidding, I really don't).

I have had a website for many years at http://www.madrigalmaniac.com Stop by if you get the chance. I also write for the DailyKos and was named Blogger of the Year in 2014 by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW).

I have already had some private conversations with DavidB who seems to be a nice person. Initially we had some differences, but I believe they have been worked out.

I look forward to meeting other people here and am ready to participate in thoughtful informative debate.

I have met quite a few lib's that will admit they are wrong. What you are really referring to are the progressives and there is a very big difference. They used to claim they were liberals, but they proved they were not, so they changed their names back to progressives. They can't make up their minds what to call themselves, because they keep changing it all the time.

I am certainly no vision of innocence in that department. I would like to think I do not begin the nastiness. There are actually a couple of Liberals on here with whom I have had some productive back and forth. At any rate, given the level of disinterest in the average American v**er, even the people I disagree with vehemently here are a step up from the average apathetic, clueless Joe V**er. At least they are engaged enough to get upset.
I personally think the number of v**ers who turn out for most e******ns is a national disgrace, and the number of v**ers who have no damn idea of what they are v****g for is an even bigger one.
