I wonder how many people would still participate in these programs if they had to limit their sugar, preprocessed and fat rich foods. This sounds reasonable to me!

You and ginnyt you do know that there are restrictions on what you can buy with food stamps. The last I heard was you can not purchase anything that is taxable.

It may vary from state to state, but I see people buying 44 oz. sodas, chips, and other junk with their Lone Star cards here in Texas all the time. I'm not sure if that stuff is taxed, or not. May buy some tomorrow just to see!!

I do not have personal experience, that is having a need to use assistance. What I have seen, well people using the card to buy all manner of things that are unhealthy. According to the SANP web site, everything, with the exception of the following can be bought using EBT cards:

•Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes or tobacco
•Any nonfood items, such as pet foods, soaps, paper products, diapers, and household supplies
•Vitamins and medicines
•Food that will be eaten in the store

I do not know about the tax issue you raised. I have however, seen chips, soda, cakes, pies, lobster, steak ..... all being paid for by SNAP.

I believe soda has been allow recently, but what wrong with steak or lobster if they have the money available on their card to pay for it

I guess it is just me, but isn't there a cash limit on these cards? Does the food need to last for more than just one meal? Then it would seem that lobster, due to the price, one would not consider as an item to purchase. But, then again.....they are beggars, so what do they care what they spend the money of those who work on. They buy the lobster and the next day they are at the local food bank cleaning it out. And complaining about the se******n do not meet with their approval.

Yes there are limits on the cards 1 person $200 2 people $367 3 people $526 (it goes up $100-$150 per person after that)once the card reaches it's limit then you have to wait for the next moth. I doubt most people could feed a family of 3 on $526 a month.

I don't remember who but somebody post the welfare figures and according to the chart 80% of the people are off welfare within 2-5 years
