BREAKING: Zero guilty verdicts found in Whitmer kidnapping case
APR. 8, 2022 3:07 PM

The jury rendered verdicts today in the Whitmer kidnapping case against four men who were accused of trying to kidnap the Michigan governor.

But there were NO guilty verdicts. Two of the men were pronounced ‘not guilty’ and a mistrial was declared for the other two.

Here’s more from CNN:

A federal jury on Friday found two men accused of plotting to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer not guilty of kidnapping conspiracy and a mistrial was declared for two other defendants.

Adam Fox, Barry Croft, Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta faced federal charges for allegedly conspiring to kidnap the Democratic governor.

Harris and Caserta were found not guilty of kidnapping conspiracy. The jury also found Harris not guilty on other charges. The jury could not reach a verdict for Fox and Croft, after which US District Judge Robert Jonker declared a mistrial for those defendants.

All four defendants, who pleaded not guilty, faced up to life in prison if convicted of kidnapping conspiracy.

That is pretty stunning and undoubtedly a blow to the FBI.

Remember, it was Buzzfeed who went over everything in the case last year and suggested that the FBI had a far more aggressive role in making this plot to kidnap the governor happen:

An examination of the case by BuzzFeed News also reveals that some of those informants, acting under the direction of the FBI, played a far larger role than has previously been reported. Working in secret, they did more than just passively observe and report on the actions of the suspects. Instead, they had a hand in nearly every aspect of the alleged plot, starting with its inception. The extent of their involvement raises questions as to whether there would have even been a conspiracy without them.

I haven’t followed this case in court but I’m guessing this probably had a lot to do with the verdicts and the mistrials.

Greg Price has an interesting question:

I might would have said that’s an absurd question ten years ago, but these days I think that’s entirely possible given how anti-Trump and political the FBI has been lately.

Clearly the FBI isn’t what it used to be.
Back in their hay day they would have gotten away with kidnapping Whitmer, and they would have executed her And gotten convictions on the non FBI accomplishes.
