Obamacare Sends Iowa Health Insurance Premiums Skyrocketing

Thousands of Iowans are now facing double-digit health insurance premium hikes due to Obamacare.

On Wednesday, the Des Moines Register reported that the state's insurance commissioner has approved Des Moines-based Wellmark to hike its rates between 11.9% and 14.5%.

The premium spike will affect 19,000 Iowans.

"That increase is for individual policyholders who have Affordable Care Act-compliant plans," reports the Register.

CoOportunity, one of the main companies offering health insurance on the Obamacare exchange, will increase its rates 19%.

Nationally, Obamacare remains deeply unpopular. The latest Associated Press poll finds that just 30% of the country supports Obamacare.

President Barack Obama promised at least 19 times that Obamacare would lower health insurance premiums by $2,500 per family.

The sited rate increases are due to significantly increased coverages. This is like b***hing that your bill at a resteraunt went up by 50 cents when you are served a porterhouse steak instead of the hot dog you got yesterday.

No, it's like when you go to a restaurant, eat a hot dog, .... and have to pay for the porterhouse steak the worthless deadbeat at the next table ordered.

You just don't understand Obamacare yet. It isn't what you get for your money, ... it's what others get for your money.

It tells me that this poster doesn't know what he's talking about. The GOPTP has been foreseeing outcomes in the future for a long time and insisting that they already exist. I was not aware that we had so many seer/liars in this country.

You seem to be quite familiar with deadbeats. Is that because you are one of them?

The ACA is an expansion of Social Security introduced by FDR. I ask you how many starving seniors will you find if this country did not have this security net? SS is an enforced health savings account. This is the way the ACA will take care of illness - for all just as SS did.

Evidently you are well fixed but think of all those who never had the opportunity to have their own businesses. The majority of citizens in this country do work for someone/thing else. ACA is a social institution but not Socialism. It seems that single payer is working out quite well in many European nations.

Wh**ever happened to the Christian belief that we should "help our neighbor?" This is the U.S.A.! Are we not all Americans? If so, are we not all neighbors. Just by being a member of the human race makes us all brothers and sisters. If, as is said, this country is based on Christian principles, where are they now?

I gather you and yours are healthy now. But what would happen should someone in your family develop a physical problem that's very costly to cure. Would you prefer to go bankrupt just so, in the present, you are not responsible for another's health. It does work both ways you know.

Yes Alicia, I'm a lazy deadbeat, and you're right, ... everybody in the USA is too lazy and/or stupid to work, conserve and save to have money for the necessities of life, such as medical care, food, housing, clothes and t***sportation, so the federal government must control our lives and money for us. Let's all get in a big federally controlled herd, send them all our money for them to redistribute as they see fit, and drink the l*****t cool aid. Hooray for big government.

Try lostening to real news and get informed instead of just trolling through ELWNJ blogs.

Liars? Let's see, we have a president, who lies on a continuous basis, and you have the gall to call the GOPTP liars. Like most libtards, you don't have a clue what the t***h is any more, you're just a lemming marching to the cliff. Have some more of that Kool Aid.

ACA is not part of SS, and has nothing to do with it, they're separate parts of the budget. The ACA is not run by the SS Administration.

So, you're okay with paying more for your health insurance? Or, are you at the income level that qualifies you for a TAXPAYER PAID subsidized healthcare policy? Are you comfortable with a bureaucracy that is projected to take up 19% of the budget, a budget that is currently running a half trillion dollar deficit, even after pulling in a record amount of tax dollars to the treasury coffers over the past two fiscal years? When the ACA is fully implemented, entitlements will make up around 85% (entitlements took up 66% of the 2013 budget) of the federal budget...defense spending is currently at 18%, so now we're over 100%, with no money for roads, bridges, education, etc. 6% of that entitlement amount is interest on the exploding national debt, and if interest rates reach pre-2008 levels that percentage will explode to around 28% of the budget.

Are you comfortable paying the higher deductibles, and co-pays? Are you going to be comfortable to the lower quality of care, and longer waits...as more and more doctors leave the medical field. Are you comfortable with the fact that the guy (Ezekiel Emanuel) who wrote the ACA bill believes no one should receive any healthcare benefits after the age of 75. Stop and think for a minute, are you comfortable with a government who paid close to a billion dollars for the development and implementation of a computer program that is a total disaster? Amazon, Zappos, etc. had no problem implementing just as complicated programming for a tenth of the cost, and their launch was successful. Are you going to trust an incompetent government like that to control your healthcare needs, and your privacy???? And, trust a government that is going to use the partisan IRS as it's enforcement arm??? If you do, you're either very naive, or just plain stupid and gullible.

We need healthcare reform, no doubt, but the ACA is not the answer. And, healthcare is NOT a guaranteed right, contrary to what you liberals think.
