Another Brother Lost

Our Viet Nam Veteran's group lost another yesterday - Donald Blue. He was our Brother. R.I.P, 'Blue'. 
Brothers
When I first got to Nam, you were black and I was white.
Then sweating together through the boonies and in firefights we became brothers.
Everything we did depended on each other.
Without speaking we communicated.
I knew if I went left, you'd go right and be there to cover me in a firefight.
I never trusted another person as I trusted you.
That is why I shut the door to my soul when you got hit.
A part of me felt the pain, a part of me went with you on the dust-off, and a part of me died with you, and a part of me is still with you, just as a part of you is still with me.

My sympathy. We are at the age when friends we thought we be here forever all of sudden.....aren't.

My friend, I was fortunate in visiting him Tuesday with other Vets/Family. I took a patriotic 'Quilt of Honor' from a local support group as a gift/tribute for his service. He asked for the quilt to be laid over him to cut the chill he felt. According to his Family, after our leaving, he told them how gratified he was for our time with him. They called and relayed the words that his last day on Earth was a good one.
