(Reuters) - North Carolina's divided Supreme Court struck down the state's new congressional map on Friday, upholding claims from Democratic v**ers and advocacy groups that the redrawn district lines illegally favor Republicans.

The 4-3 decision, with justices registered as Democrats making up the majority, could have an outsized impact on the 2022 midterm e******ns in November, when control of the closely divided U.S. Congress will be at stake.

Democrats and civil rights activists had asserted that the new map ensures Republicans will win a majority of the state's 14 congressional districts, even in e******ns in which more Democratic v**ers cast b****ts.

Issuing a ruling Friday, the Supreme Court said the maps "are unconstitutional beyond a reasonable doubt under the free e******ns clause, the equal protection clause, the free speech clause, and the freedom of assembly clause of the North Carolina Constitution."

North Carolina's legislature can submit new congressional and state legislative districting plans "that satisfy all provisions of the North Carolina Constitution," the court said. The deadline to submit such plans for review by a trial court is Feb. 18, the court said.

Federal law requires states to draw new congressional lines every 10 years to account for population shifts, after the U.S. Census completes its once-a-decade count. In most states, legislators control the process, leading to the practice of gerrymandering, in which one party engineers political maps to benefit itself.

The case was among numerous pending lawsuits challenging congressional maps in at least half a dozen states, including Texas, Ohio and Georgia, according to New York University's Brennan Center for Justice, which is tracking redistricting litigation.

Republicans need to flip only a handful of seats in the Nov. 8 e******ns to retake control of the U.S. House of Representatives, where Democrats hold a 221-212 edge, including vacancies.

No surprise. The v**e was 4 to 3 with Democrats holding the majority. How do you think they would v**e? Democrats in New York are drawing up bizarre districts in order to try and capture four congressional seats. I am sure that is ok with you.

The dam courts have no business in redistricting. That is the responsibility of the elected officials the courts have no say. In NY the demoRATS are redistricting several republican representatives out of office. I haven't heard
a word about it. I don't think the republicans are suing and they shouldn't . But something has to be done about courts getting involved in political procedures. This problem is caused by demoRATS and demoRAT judges and it has to stop.

When Democrats are claiming to be "constitutional" over any matter requiring "Constitutional Justification," they presuppose this Grand Document to be "a living document." This means they interpret it to reflect the rule of law to be "subject to the circumstances of society as defined from a sociological perspective and not from the original intent of our founding fathers, in particular, the great John Adams.

And this is the question to ask all lawyers and judges, "Do you hold to the original intent of the Founding Fathers of our American Constitution?" If they do not, then do not listen or follow them because they automatically lie.

In Illinois, it is the democrats who design the maps. Our Governor ran on the concept of vetoing any outrageous political maps and then signed one right away that is egregiously political. The last one was. And even though we lost one representative, for the state, the new maps exclude two Republican districts and in another pit to incumbents against each other,
