Many om the conservative side, who claim they h**e government and support privatizing programs like SS, Medicare, and literally dozens more, should take a good, long like at the failure of the private sector in running the Indiana turnpike. The consortium has gone bankrupt.
The former republican governor and the current republican governor chortle to themselves that the citizens of Indiana will not be affected, but that remains to be seen.
The reason for the lack of use of the Indiana turnpike is simple, it is a lousy road, in need of repair across the length.
Without proper funding, the road is best avoided if possible,
and anyone who has had the bad fortune of driving thru Indiana knows that.

What else would you expect out of a state or any other state ran by con artists(R) past and present?

Do people continue to use the turnpike? Is it the only road to somewhere? I ask this because these are questions that lend themselves to the difference between private enterprise and government sloth. If there are other means of getting to one's destination, and if the road is as bad as you say, then people are i***ts for using the road. If they stopped using the road, the company owning it would either respond and make the repairs to keep the business or fail and go bankrupt. If people stop using a government owned road nothing happens......government neglects it then tells the people to suck it up. This explains the difference between private business and government quite well. Betcha you people keep using it and allow the company to get away with neglecting it. And where is the news media......it usually browbeats private industry into the dirt unless it is the entertainment industry.

And private enterprise meddling in vital public services doesn't work either.. So how do we find a proper balance? You can't privatize everything, and you can't have government running everything, so?
The company that filed bankruptcy has a poor track record of holding their end up. They were suppose to spend a certain amount on maintaining the road each year. They are 500 million short on that right now and they file bankruptcy. My guess is someone has a lot of money in their overseas account and the tax payers are stuck with the problems caused by this privatization of their road. Lets also remember this deal was brokered by gov. daniels who used to be budget director for bush. Privatizing the profits and socializing the loses is the republicans grand idea of the free market at work. The taxpayers lose again.

That's all too true. The proud and the ignorant, as usual, don't seem to want to acknowledge that this is not a "free market", not when powerful interests, with our government's support, can do exactly that: privatize the profits and socialize the losses. But that is what is happening in banking, education,, healthcare, energy extraction....that's socialism for the rich, capitalism for everyone else.

Too simplistic an argument to be meaningful.....
Public schools, highways, utilities, etc.. are both socialistic as well as funded by capitalism.

Capitalists increase profits by reducing costs. Do you really think private enterprise will care for you adequately if it costs money? One must look at insurance companies to see the reality. When a claim is made, the first thing that happens is an examination of the claim - to determine if or how much of it can be denied. Insurance companies do not make money by paying money out.
