Although I do find it misguided, I have no doubt as to your patriotism. As this is America, even those misguided have a right to expressed thoughts and opinions. Try not to be so hard on yourself.
I like being hard on myself Slats. I now lay supine and have my wife break cinder blocks on my 8 pack abs with a sledgehammer.

I see, you mean sort'a like your entire post's insinuations/projections towards others unlike yourself.
What happened to your "higher standard"
Every time we reach higher standards, someone like Mooch ovommit goes lower.

I don't believe I have ever said I have a 'higher standard'. I'll get in the mud along with the best of them.
First, an apology for being so late with my response. Every morning, from approximately 7-9am, I join another Vet for coffee. Secondly, as far your mentioning another, "higher standard"...On this very thread...
Quote: American Vet..."One claiming to be a veteran is held to the same standard as anyone else - in my opinion, a higher standard." IMO, the inference is clear. If that conclusion is wrong...again, an apology may be due.
The highest standard of political/ideological discourse was set by two of my favorites, William F. Buckley and Daniel Patrick Moynihan. I they engaged each other quite frequently on the old 'Firing Line' TV series.
In closing, suffice to say that, respectfully, I believe our opinions of one another are likely just as high the other's.

A perfect example of literary license if ever I saw/read one.

I said I hold them (veterans) to a higher standard. My personal opinion.
As far as myself: Just like I said - I will get in the mud with the best of them. And if that means calling someone out to be a liar - I will do so. Point out their hypocrisy - I will do so.

So, quite frankly, as a Vet, you hold yourself to a higher standard. Again, I ask: How often is it on display, except in your mind
In my mind, I hold to that same standard.

And your point?
Don't play obtuse.
Clearly, the point is: Just as you claim holding to a higher standard...in their minds, so do all on OPP.

As a young man, I actually met Hemingway once at the Floridita bar in Cuba. I was pretty buffed up at the time and had my muscle t-shirt on. My biceps were about 20" in circumference and I later found out that one of his greatest novels, "A Farewell to Arms" was based upon my impressive physique. So yes, I do have some literary license in my family tree. I fell in love too, no not with Ernest but his granddaughter Mariel, and helped her and Woody Allen put together some of the dialogue in the hit movie Manhatten.

I've never been obtuse in my entire life. I've been at 89° and 181° degrees and both were bars in Key West but never frequented 91° or 179° or anything in between. I'm more of an acute sort of guy.
