That is how I live. Live rural and do as much for yourself as you can. If you don't know how to do something, read up . Youcan teach yourself damn near anything. My dad did that. If you can see it in your mind's eye, you should be able to build it with your hands. If you depend on others for your existance, you ain't long for this world.

My father was the. Most intelligent person I’ve ever meet. He did not have a high school diploma because he joined the Navy in WW II before he graduated. What he needed to learn (welding, masonry, electricity, what ever) he would get a book and read about it. I still have his set of Audel books on electricity from the early 1950s. I went from an E2 in the Navy in Vietnam to an 06 in the Merchant Marines without a college education. Having never attended a college I was asked and accepted a position to teach college. I’m quite proud of that, and so are many of my students.
