On more than one day, as I sat in his living room, I witnessed him switching from news program to news program to news program.
I asked why he did that. After all, each channel covered the same stories. What was the point of hearing the same things over and over again?
He looked me in the eye and said nothing for a few seconds. Then he said that when two people tell the same story, they each tell it from their own perspective so they may be the same stories but there are little differences in the telling. He said that when those little differences are not there, you are hearing propaganda, not news.
He would have known. He learned it the hardest way possible.
I have been hearing the same stories from the Left and from the Right for at least 30 years. That is, from each side's perspective and from various presenters on each side. I have been paying attention with my grandfather's words in mind.
I hear basically the same stories from most points on the Right.
I hear exactly the same stories from all points on the Left, right down to the same inflection on their daily buzzwords and catch phrases.
Listen for yourselves... keeping my grandfather's words in mind.

I was always told what happened in Germany could never happen here. We have a Constitution and we are committed to freedom. I guess it doesn't matter where you live. It just matters who we let into government.
