"Plato says that from the exaggerated license which people call
liberty, tyrants spring up as from a root ... and that at last such
liberty reduces a nation to s***ery. Everything in excess is changed into
its opposite. ... For out of such an ungoverned populace one is
usually chosen as leader ... someone bold and unscrupulous ...
who curries favor with the people by giving them other men’s
property. To such a man, because he has much reason for fear if he remains
a private citizen, the protection of public office is given, and continually
renewed. He surrounds himself with an armed guard, and emerges
as a tyrant over the very people who raised him to power."
Cicero --- first century B.C

I’ve never forgiven Augustus Caesar for having Marcus Tullius Cicero murdered.

My...My....How history repeats itself?
Too bad the "youth" of today, don't care about the classics of the past.....They could evade so much misery?

It would seem that the impetuousness of youth and that feeling of immortality leads to a certain sense of certainty in their concepts and ideas ... and of course us old fogies are full of manure and don't understand the youth of today. It's my recollection that most r**ts/revolutions start with the colleges & university population, which makes this particular one somewhat different ... in that it was a reconstituted grievance movement from the post-Reconstruction era that has never gone away (think w***e s*******y).
Yes, history does repeat itself. That quote is just one of any number of similar ones that populate history if one cares enough to read it (and maybe, just maybe learn from it.)
"Those that ignore history are doomed to repeat it." George Santayana

Liberty unconstrained is merely anarchy masquerading as a pig on lipstick...

Need not be a single individual...
People do love the idea of taking from others...

Pelosi and Schmuck Schumer have been there since before Cicero was born.
