"Be ye therefore perfect as the father in heaven is perfect." (Matthew 5:48) This is the conclusion to the Beatitudes: is that significant?

[Before my loyal Rumi-attackers take over the subject to tell you how utterly imperfect I am, which I don't really dispute all the time, can I ask that we keep the responses to a discussion that keeps God and our individual understanding of faith first. Please make your responses a testimony to our lord: tis' the season. Thank you. Merry Christmas.]

Are you as perfect as the father in heaven? I feel fairly certain that none of us Christians would boast of such a state. Yet Scripture, as I see it, clearly directs, commands, states is possible, that we be as perfect as the father in heaven. If we believe the scripture is true as it says, the question is How? Is it by steadfastly adhering to the Ten Commandments, articles of faith, traditions, and so forth? Good works? Being a dedicated Calvinist, Lutheran, or Methodist? Or a Baptist? Or any other of a myriad of personal beliefs all seen as central to being a true Christian?

When Matt5:48 is read in context, that is at the conclusion of the Beatitudes, the perfection spoken of is the love of neighbor and enemy alike, which is not possible for anyone; it can only be realized (not achieved) by a total surrender to Spirit and grace. And how is that state realized: it is to be--be! not believe--as a little child. Our beliefs, all of them, about his Word and Jesus are the problems, barriers, to our perfection.

Love is not a belief, beliefs are anathema to love. They are a distance, no matter how slight that may be, from being at-one with the father. (Here are the scripture verses about at-one-ment with God: (Jn14:20, 15:4-7, 17:26; Rom8:9-10; 1Cor6:17; 2Cor1:21, 5:17, 21; Eph4:13; Col1:27, 3:3; 1Jn2:24, 4:16) This at-one-ment with God is our Atonement for sin, for it is, as Jesus said, "dying to self"...as he did. Spirit, not us per se, decides our course of action, which is always love, however the father wants it expressed.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another." John 13:34 This helps explain the perfection, for how is this "New Commandment" different than Leviticus 19:18: "Love your neighbor as you love yourself"? Pretty obvious. It is not "as you love yourself" but as Christ loved us, which is as God loves. There is no self, only Spirit and Grace.

Any type of Christianity is not our ground of existence, this is: "God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him." (1 John 4:16)

I expected this from you, your usual off-topic bile. A good opportunity for you and other Christians to share their faith and spread the Word of God--and you waste it with your petty and base partisan BS, your hate for me greater than pleasing God. Merry Christmas and may you get peace for your troubled soul.

Indeed he does. As predicted he whines when he’s taken to task for it. As long as he continues peddling hate he can’t be taken seriously

The ‘surrender to spirit and grace’ is taken from the hyper grace movement which is not biblical.

My little snarky friend, you are wrong: surrender to spirit and grace is the basis of our faith in Christ and vital to Salvation. Read these if you dare to lose that spiritual arrogance you have that your thinking on Christianity is alone The Truth:

Its not me that hates rumitoid. Thats all you do is show hatred for others who don’t share your opinions. Its so ingrained you’ve become deadened to it

There are many issues with the hyper grace movement you espouse. Its easy believism and not biblical.

“ it's dangerous to tell every sin-worn Christian that his or her disobedience is nothing more than a failure to bask in grace, a failure to be joyful that they're already accepted in Christ. ”

Thank you for the site espousing what I am not, if you took the time to read the thread without your ever-present jaundice, ready to condemn view of me. The usual. If you addressed any of the points I made that would have been mature. Oh, well, Merry Christmas.

Good grief, can you try to be honest for a change? I did address it. You may not be aware of the hyper grace movement as such but you should be. Its been pointed out to you before and you ignored it then too.

Hohoho. You are unreal. You did not address it. To address anything in a debate, you need to specifically discuss the points of the opponent and why you disagree. I commend you that you at least made an effort to find a site that backed your opinion, yet that says nothing. And that you did not just settle for your usual personal attacks on me, which was probably hard to show such enormous restraint. And then the BS. I am such a fool for wasting my time dealing with your obtuse responses. I know I said this before but no more. Again, Merry Christmas.

Your dishonesty never surprises me. Nor does your attempt to control how people answer. Look it up or don’t. You are influenced by those inthe hyper grace movement though you may not know it

You constantly attack others. Rather hypocritical of you to whine. And I
didn’t personally attack you.

If you want to control people’s answers and have your ego stoked then you should start your own forum

It is ironic that you have wished us both a Merry Christmas wrapped up in an insult……..Bless your Heart! We don’t hate you, we disagree with you. You have made yourself the perpetual victim to those who disagree with your comments and your continual attacks…..…how sad! I wish for you a day that you can set aside your obsession to OPEN the eyes of those who don’t see the world from your vision of what you consider TRUTH……a day of joy and peace!

This is necessary for salvation! It’s so simple and yet you continue to dance all around it!

How can I be saved? Why do I need to be saved?

We are all infected with sin (Romans 3:23). We are born with sin (Psalm 51:5), and we all personally choose to sin (Ecclesiastes 7:20; 1 John 1:8). Sin is what makes us unsaved. Sin is what separates us from God. Sin is what has us on the path to eternal destruction.

How can I be saved? Saved from what?

Because of our sin, we all deserve death (Romans 6:23). While the physical consequence of sin is physical death, that is not the only kind of death that results from sin. All sin is ultimately committed against an eternal and infinite God (Psalm 51:4). Because of that, the just penalty for our sin is also eternal and infinite. What we need to be saved from is eternal destruction (Matthew 25:46; Revelation 20:15).

How can I be saved? How did God provide salvation?

Because the just penalty for sin is infinite and eternal, only God could pay the penalty, because only He is infinite and eternal. But God, in His divine nature, could not die. So God became a human being in the person of Jesus Christ. God took on human flesh, lived among us, and taught us. When the people rejected Him and His message, and sought to kill Him, He willingly sacrificed Himself for us, allowing Himself to be crucified (John 10:15). Because Jesus Christ was human, He could die; and because Jesus Christ was God, His death had an eternal and infinite value. Jesus’ death on the cross was the perfect and complete payment for our sin (1 John 2:2). He took the consequences we deserved. Jesus’ resurrection from the dead demonstrated that His death was indeed the perfectly sufficient sacrifice for sin.

How can I be saved? What do I need to do?

“Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31). God has already done all of the work. All you must do is receive, in faith, the salvation God offers (Ephesians 2:8-9). Fully trust in Jesus alone as the payment for your sins. Believe in Him, and you will not perish (John 3:16). God is offering you salvation as a gift. All you have to do is accept it. Jesus is the way of salvation (John 14:6).

The hyper grace movement he’s a part of - without knowing - is unbiblical and dangerous. Perhaps the Holy Spirit will open his eyes to the truth.

Meanwhile he remains the most prolific hate monger on OPP. All he has to do is post articles without the bile filled commentary.

I had never heard of that movement until I read about it on one of these threads. It’s always amazing how the very plainly stated salvation verses are ignored, but then I’m reminded of just who we are actually warned of in scriptures…….It’s a constant battle that we must always be aware of!
